Love it.
Superstructs Starter Set purchased for my 5 year old. He already owns a different set that we found at a local thrift shop. He requested more to build with. He sat down and built several of the items in the book, as well as came up with his own creations. This item is a favorite among my sons and my nephew. Love it!Great STEM item for our homeschooling curriculum, too.

Sturdy, leaves a lot of room for creative play
Another situation where I would like to give it 4 stars, but can't. I bought these as an alternative to the wooden Tinker Toys/Fiddlesticks. I didn't like those because the wood split and often the sticks wouldn't fit securely in the holes and it can be very frustrating for a child to work hard on building something only to have the sticks falling out. Back to this product...I love the ideas book and yes, these are sturdier...but be forewarned that some of the pieces are VERY difficult to put together and take apart, even for an adult. Assembling a tire takes a good amount of effort. It certainly stays together, though. I think if your child is 4-6 years old this is better for an adult who wants to build things for their child to play with. Perhaps once they are older they can more easily push together the pieces to build on their own.

Fun to play with but hard to pull apart!
These tinker toy parts are really hard to pull apart which makes them stay together well in structure form. Our 4 year old grandson does spend hours playing with them but we worry that in the pulling apart that the stick may recoil and poke a vulnerable area of his anatomy. We watch him and are with him when he is playing but it makes us a little tense in the safety aspect. These are harder to disassemble than the old wooden variety of tinker toys were. Also, wish we got more building parts for our money.

Wonderful possibilities
My 3 and 6 year old sons absolutely love this set. They like it better than the original Tinkertoys. They have invented so many things beyond the cars they show in the canister. They want more of these but of course this mom isn't made of money. As soon as I can, though, we'll definitely be adding to the set. I just love toys the kids can be creative with and really enjoy. It's good to see their minds at play as much as their hands.

Cute idea, but very difficult for younger kids to assemble
My son loves the things we build with this set, but the pieces are VERY difficult to snap together and take apart for a child. My husband and I have to do all the building. My son is 3 and he can't really build with it yet. He'll have to be much stronger before he can build himself. I would say that a kid would have to be closer to 6-10 to be able to assemble and unassemble this toy.

Fantastic toy!
My son has had this for about two years now, and he still pulls it out often to use his imagination and build his own creations. He is six and still needs a little help when building one of the models from the instructions, but when they are done they look great/impressive, and they can be played with not just for looking at! The wheels turn and work great! We will probably be ordering more soon!

Kids loved it but most pieces broke
The first day the boys dropped (not threw) the yellow pieces on the floor (hardwood) and they broke in two, about 8 of them did this. Very disappointed after some use one of the stick pieces broke off inside a yellow connector, one piece broke because they stepped on it. Overall not happy with how they stood up, I could see a couple of broken pieces but most of them were just dropped on the floor from 'kid height'. Going to try the tinker toys to see how they stand up. But the boys loved this set sorry that I can't risk buying more.

Great for a kid's brain
I don't just buy an item, I think how it will be used, and if it will help a little brain in the process of thinking. I have a very curious 4-your old grandson, and he has his dad's help in creating phantasie models - I am sure he has many more parts by now that there were in the original set.

Versatile and colourful but can be physically tough to fit the pieces together
We bought this for our 2 1/4 yearold. I was hoping that it would be easy to assemble the pieces but it's actually quite physically tough to force some of the pieces together (even for an adult!). You often have to apply quite a lot of pressure and must do so within quite a narrow range of angles. As such, I'd hesitate to recommend these for younger kids. But, that said, our daughter does like this kit, even though she can't get many of the parts to connect together. She can build simple little creations and she often demands "Mummy / Daddy, build new car!" Of course, the toy is meant for 3 year olds upwards, so I'm being a little unfair writign a review based on our 2 1/4 yearold's experiences! It's entirely possible that a patient 3 year old would be able to assemble the pieces with little trouble.
