I wanted to use this exactly as described in the product description using a sharp pencil to mark a line parallel to edge on wood. Unfortunately, the holes are not large enough to accommodate a pencil. Not even nearly. I tried several newly sharpened pencils but with no success. I also tried the point of a drawing compass and that didn’t fit either.It’s such a pity because the tool looks great.My first reaction was to throw it in the rubbish bin but have now decided to drill each hole a little larger using a pillar drill.Conclusion: If you want a marking gauge to use with a pencil, don't buy this.

Easy to read and use

The finish of the metal is Good, no rough edges. BUT, it's not what I expected. The whole point of the thing is to be able to get a Pencil through a hole to mark on wood.I struggled to get a 0.7mm propelling pencil lead in the holes!!It's not likely to be a boon to your Woodwork, it's more likely to drive you CRAZY!!
