CertainTeed 902018 8'4" x 50' Smart Vapor Retarder Barrier Helps Prevent Mold Better Than Poly sheeting, Use with unfaced Insulation, Perfect for remodeling

I have an unfinished walkout basement. Half is concrete wall and half is regular 2x4 construction. The builder had installed certainteed bats that had this as a film but did not seal or have a continuous envelope vapor barrier. Those bats got wet during the summer as air drove into the house.Replaced that insulation and then put up regular vapor barrier, but condensation would form on the inside of the vapor barrier and wet the insulation, so I moved to this and my vapor problems are gone. I don't get any more moisture in the walls even on the hottest days and I still don't have to fully finish the basement to insulate the vapor barrier from the inside air.I was skeptical but have been very pleased with this product.

Great stuff. Shipped promptly. I installed roxul insulation in a cabin and put this on before the tongue and groove.

The best I can say is that I intend to buy again on future projects.The great debate now over 6 mil poly vapor barrier whether by sealing that it traps moisture and actually causes mold.Why risk?This product is really still quite cheap and apparently designed to allow water vapor to vent - seems like a great investment.Based on ease of installation and specification that it vents moisture, I would say 5 stars.

Much tougher than poly sheeting. Easy to install - now, we'll see how well it controls moisture after I die and someone else buys this house and does a "remodel"!!

The big box stores don't sell this item that is clearly needed when installing rock wool insulation. Don't let the "pro's" tell you that its not needed because the big box stores don't sell it and they do sell mineral wool insulation. Read the directions with the mineral wool or go to the website. Yep, its needed. This is very easy to install, just need a staple gun, staples and perhaps a box knife if you need to cut it. Please follow the directions, its much easier and you are assured of proper install.

used this when remodeled family room that had three walls on exterior/to garage. It creates a breathable moisture barrier allowing interior humidity to go out of the walls but not from outside in. easy to install, tougher that appears and was very functional when old exterior sheathing was fiberboard (no vapor barrier).

Recently installed rock wool insulation in an addition but needed a vapor barrier. MemBrain was recommended so that is what we used. It installed very easily and is much tougher than polyethylene or paper. Would definitely use again.

Perfect to cover the insulation we had put in a house that had 2ft wide spacing between studs. Easy to apply, and a better moisture barrier than the kraft faced insulation we could only get on special order.
