Works great on pure nickel strip
Tried the portable welders first and they didn’t have enough power for pure nickel strip. This one works great on the 0.20mm I have and I’m only at about half power setting on it. Should easily handle 0.30mm thick nickel as well. Maybe more. Copper??? Highly recommend!!!

0.3mm no, 0.2mm kinda, 0.15mm good
There are a couple of issues with this spot welder. For one, it cannot reliably do 0.3mm pure nickel strips. That's ok. It's difficult ask for most spot welders, even though it is advertised as such. When you attempt 0.3mm pure nickel, the strip kind of holds, but it pulls off rather easily and doesn't leave really any tear on the battery.More surprisingly, the same is an issue when attempting to spot weld 0.2mm pure nickel (as shown in the picture). You get the nickel strip to hold, but it doesn't hold well. This was after trying multiple settings, going from the recommended 20t-25t setting all the way to 90t in +5 increments - consider that 0.3mm pure nickel is recommended at 60-70t.Two other issues - the really really short AC adapter. It's only 2 feet long. Most wall outlets are set at 9-10 inches above the floor, and desk height is usually 27-30 inches. This means that you only have enough length to have the unit sit at the very back edge of the desk to reach the outlet. This makes some sort of extension almost a requirement. Additionally the welding pressure adjustments on the handheld welding pen are really really weak. Only after a week of use they popped off.In summary, this spot welder kind of does 0.2mm pure. 0.3mm pure is a no go. 0.15mm pure is good. Full disclosure, I did not try nickel plated steel strips, because I have high current requirements for my application.(FYI: Note the 801D can be found under several brands, so the issues highlighted are probably not limited to the one we tried out.)

Stopped working after doing 2 drill batteries
I bought this in April 2023, but didn't use it till the last week of November. I had to rebuild 2 Milwaukee 18 volt batteries. The 801D spot welder worked with adequate welds, but after the 2 batteries were finished, the unit gave up the ghost. Even though I'm outside the return and support window, there is no way to contact the manufacturer. So, this was a real waste of money and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

One of the few that work on here
Good for .20 to .25mm nickel strips, takes a bit to charge up but then is rather consistent for 20-30mins of spot welding
