This game is as detailed as you make it
I have agreed with the criticisms of previous versions of football manager like the 2010 version for example, which became a lot more detailed and therefore took so much more time to make any progress if you played the game properly. This 2013 version understands this and allows you to transfer as many roles as you like to your backroom staff and chairman so that you can just focus on the stuff you really care about. And you can keep the game moving as quickly as you choose to as a result. The training section is so much simpler and less cumbersome than in previous versions and the scouting is all set up for you in a logical way too, another area that was previously time-heavy. You now have a head scout to oversee things for you. While the level of detail is incredible, all those pointless press conferences and news items can be gotten rid of at a click of a button. This is without doubt the most customisable (if that is a word) version so far and that is without mentioning the improved interface and user friendliness, the improved realism of the costs of running a football club and above all the chance to work with the best Everton squad for years and take them to the Champions league and beyond. Ignore then moaners who have clearly not taken the time to customise the game preferences; this game is everything anyone would wish for in a football manager game and is cheap too.

Had my doubts but....
Being a FM devotee for the past 12 years, having played all versions of the game and beeing another addict in the game I was really disjointedness with the FM 2012 instalment. Mostly because it was so freaking difficult and complicated. I purchased FM 13 to give it another change and boy did it deliver! Amazing game! FM is back, alive and kicking! Yes it's hard to win games but no longer impossible (as it was in FM 12) but the gameplay get as simple or as difficult you want it to be and the detail of the game is out of this world. The king is back. Best game EVER!

Potentially great game when it's finally patched.
I've been a huge fan of the Football Manager series for years. Some of the new features are excellent such as the new training schedule, transfer deadline days, scouting improvements and the screen layout. All good. The new match engine is promising, they've clearly done a lot of work on the dynamics of the game. The players and ball seem to behave more realistically, some of the time. However it's a great annoyance that, for about the 4th year running, that there is a distinct feeling that the product was rushed out before it was ready. There are a number of serious errors in the match engine, certain camera angles don't work, players watching the ball go right past them all the time, really slow play, an incredible amount of defensive passes back to the keeper and defending that would look bad in non-league football. This game must be heavily tested and, reading similar comments to the ones above on loads of fan forums, tells me that SI must have known there were problems but decided to go ahead with the release anyway. In which case a patch should have been made available on the day of release. In a few weeks the errors will be addressed and we'll have a superb football management simulation but it doesn't help SI's reputation by constantly releasing games that feel like they were rushed out.

Very solid game..... You need to be patient though
When I first played this game, I had the same opinion as a lot of the people giving it a 1 star review. I am not saying that the 1 star reviews are neccesarily wrong. A lot of the points being made are true. However I persevered with the game and am now loving it.Gone are the days when you can just pick up the game from any team and play the same formation and tactics and you will be successful. Now you need to look at your squads strengths and weaknesses and exploit them. Look at your opponents and exploit there weaknesses. If they have 2 CBs who are not good in the air but you have a striker or 2 who are.... Pump lots of crosses into the box etc.If you like "just playing" then this isnt the game for you. This is VERY in depth. You will need to be (like me), someone who like to have everything thought out and study your formations etc.... I got a lot of satisfaction from getting Charlton to a point from the play offs having not spent a penny on transfers in my first season when everyone was saying you couldnt win on the game. Tactics need to be right for the team you are and the teams you are playing against.I love and have all versions of FM and the CM series before that (I stopped buying CM when they split and FM was formed) even dating back to Championship Manager 93 on my old Atari (which I still have). With CM2 being my all time favourite and if I fancy a "quick game" then that would be my choice. However if I fancy a night of it.... FM2013 is a must and you REALLY must give it some time. Finish the season, battle through it, look at the tactics you are playing, if you players are very technical.... Dont try too many instructions. Sometimes less is more. Plain 4-4-2 is usually the best place to start then build from there.

WOW
The best game on the planet. If you have a new laptop it ill be very quick and you would do a season in around 10 hours. Quite a long time but you do get your moneys worth out of this game. The game has great detail and will always be number one!! steam is not an issue as many people have mentioned - just install it and before starting the game, select steam and go off-line, job done!! This game is very addictive and you need a few hours on it at a time to get some momentum when playing.

Fm2013
What can I say? If you have played previous versions you will love it as I do, if you are thinking of buying it , what you reading this for?? It's excellent as always , it still has little things that are annoying but on the whole is the best managerial game on the planet bar none. The match has been improved and the game flows more realisticaly , but essentially they have kept the rest as it was before , why mess up a good thing?? For me personally it gets 9/10

Fantastisch!
