has any used the 3M insulation? which one is better and why?

I'd give the 3M product a slight edge in the quality of the double-sided tape, and for my largest window, the extra two-inches in size really helped, but the Frost King has been fine & was less expensive.

this film works, does it actually make a difference in the insulation?

Yes, it makes a BIG difference. It not only cuts drafts it creates an insulated barrier between your single pane leaky window and your heater, keeping the heat in and the cold out.

Can anyone please explain to me why one patio door kit is $6.36, but a 2 pack of the exact item down to the sku # $59.95 ??

Easy one seller is making a few pennies and the other seller is taking people over the coals.

will these work to keep hot weather out or just cold weather?

They will keep the hot air and humidity from seeping through the windows yes.
