A priceless piece of superb writing of social history - a magnificent read.
This is a wonderful description of Fred Kitchen's life as an agricultural labourer in a very different era of the early 20th Century. He later came to live in my own home town of Bolsover and many people over 60 fondly remember him as a warm and cultured man, having attended Workers Education Association (WEA) classes where he learned journalism, broadcasting and languages among other subjects. As a writer myself (of stories set in Bolsover of the early 1960's), I can only give the highest praise for this superb autobiography. After reading it, I have donated it to the local library, since their copy was 'lost'.Boggy Marsh

Nostalgic and very well written.
I bought this book for my Husband. He is delighted with it. From all the feedback I have from him and he keeps reading me out loud snippets, it seems very nostalgic for a 77 year old. So pleased I purchased it for him.

Ordered this for my husband who had previously heard extracts from it on radio 4. He read it iñ 5day's. Being a farmer he could relate to tasks taken and the humour in parts. (My husband was born a lot later than when this was written.
