Just switch it on and it's ready to go.
This is the second of these clocks I've bought. The first one is still working perfectly after several years. Two things that might put a UK buyer off. The day name abbreviations are in German. They need to be changed if you want them in English. The time is German time, which means the hour display is one hour ahead of UK time. This can also be changed but if you don't like fiddling with electronic things (I don't) it's simpler to remember that the hour displayed is the hour that's coming up and not the hour that's just been passed. It only takes a day or two to get used to it. Other than that, this is a superb product, requiring no maintenance at all. No batteries needed. Just leave it alone. Two other points. Because it works off daylight as an energy source, it doesn't have enough power to glow in the dark. And don't leave it in direct sunlight.

How to use it in the UK&I
It definitely does work in the UK, but you’ll need to make a small adjustment initially (and possibly have it near a window).Press and HOLD the MODE button for a few seconds. It’s the one on the LEFT.Then keep pressing MODE until it says ‘0’ on the screen. That’s 7 more presses.Use the Down Arrow (on the right hand size of Snooze) and select “ -1 “This puts it one hour behind the time which the transmitter it’s tuned into in Germany, broadcasts.Press MODE again to get to the language selection. Scroll through with either the up or down arrow until you see GB.One more press of MODE (or just leave it for a while) and it will go back to the normal clock screen.Perfect !!! It should keep to the correct UK&I time. You will however need to repeat this step, if you turn the clock off at the back.

GB time and day of the week settings
Sorted. When I received the clock and switched it on, it set the time to European time ie 1 hour ahead of UK time and the day of the week was not in English. Was about to send it back when after a careful read of the instructions I found the part that guides you through altering the time to UK time (and it still maintains the radio control for auto update of BST) and changing the day of the week to GB. All that is needed is to press the Mode button for 3 seconds and then scroll through the settings (using the mode button) until it displays a flashing 0. Change this to -1 using the down arrow, press the mode button again and GE will be displayed under 'Day'. Again, use the down arrow to change this to GB, press the mode button once more and the setup is complete. Hope this helps.

Fantastic!
Just follow the instructions! You need to set this clock to -1 for UK time. It then keeps perfect UK time. Can't believe people are badly reviewing this product. It's honestly a fabulous little clock! Also arrived super quick!Remember no batteries required and it will need a few hours of daylight to keep charged.

Radio-controlled clock-time is not UK time
I bought this because I wanted a radio-controlled clock that I wouldn't have to adjust for BST time changes and would be ultra precise. When it arrived I was disconcerted to see that it would be controlled by the atomic clock in Frankfurt and not the UK one at Rugby. The range of the German system is 1500km and I found that the clock did pick up the signal, here, near Edinburgh. When first switched on it showed the names of day of the week, etc., in German and set itself to the European time zone, an hour ahead of the UK. However, I did find that I could with a lot of button pressing switch to English and I re-set the clock to UK time assuming that the clock would stick to UK time. Unfortunately, the clock is automatically re-set to European time during the night and so is turning out to be useless as a radio-controlled clock. The clock was supplied by a German company, Avides, who, to their credit unquestionally refunded me for the clock. But I am disappointed.

Disappointing
The clock is compact and a very stylish design, solar charging is fairly quick. However, the clock is set to German time as delivered and while it is easy to change to GMT, I found that every two or three days the 3 am radio signal check switched the time back to German. The night time display is too dark to read during the night or on the darker winter morning. The other problem for me was that the alarm is not loud enough to wake me!

A Lovely Clock
This clock is well made and has a quality feel about it. TFA-Dostmann make very good quality items. The display is very clear and well laid out showing the time including seconds, plus the day, date and month and as an added bonus the room temperature. The display background will glow in the dark as long as the clock has had a good amount of bright daylight or sunlight, but has no manual button to illuminate the display at night so after the charge goes down, the display will be in darkness. The fact that the clock receives the DCF time signal from Germany is no problem, in fact I have found it to be more reliable than the UK MSF signal, especially since the transmitter was moved to Cumbria. I am located in East Anglia. I am well pleased with this clock and would recommend it to anyone. It requires no batteries, incidentally.

read the manual !
those dunces who have dissed this radio a/ can't read the manual and b/ haven't read the description : it's SOLAR powered - If you leave it in your shaded bedroom it doesn't have the juice to 1/ check the time signal and 2/ emit serious light levels. And if you don't read the manual to tell you how to adjust its home time-zone (move an hour back), then you deserve to waste your money. Disappointed that this will affect other people's view of this clock. Which is mildly clunky - but does exactly what it says on the tin. Surprised that this concept (solar, radio-time, visible in the dark)has not caught on more - it has to be the future.
