Excellent bit of kit
This is a really good log splitter. It is certainly heavy, but I guess it has to be to be stable. The wheels on the trolley are fine for hard standing, but not great for gravel, but everything else is superb. Assembling it is straightforward with a methodical approach, but you will need 2 people to get the splitter onto the trolley once assembled. Over the years I have accumulated a collection of knotty cross grained logs which my axe would not touch and this splitter has munched through all of them. I still like using a big axe, but for anything that does not immediately split with the axe this is a great alternative and really straightforward to operate.

Fantastic machine but stand needs stengthening
Arrived next day and stand arrived day after, excellent service. The log splitter has so far performed well and really is a heavy duty machine making light work of a huge pile of poplar logs up to 50cm diam. You will need another person to help lift the machine onto the stand. My only critcism is that the stand is not strong enough and has started to bow downwards in the middle of the table after only one day's use. I intend to strenghen it by bolting some angle iron along the front and back edges and to put some cross bracing on the legs. I am sure this will do the trick but I think the design of the stand is poor given the weight of the log splitter. So it's 5star for the log splitter and the stand is worth having, but it won't last long unless you modify it.

Forest Master log 8 ton splitter
I have been splitting all my wood by axe for many years and always thought it was good exercise and part of the "three heats" from wood. However I recently got some Hawthorn trees and after cutting the trunks etc realised that this was going to be really hard to split as it had grown with a twist. Proven by having to put about five times the effort in with my axe. I then researched log splitters before settling for the Forest Master. This is a heavy piece of kit but fairly easy to assemble. It comes with a stand to allow working at nearer waist height. In operation it splits the wood easily and you can also adjust a stopper on the slide to save it having to travel the full distance if you a splitting shorter lengths. The stand is a definite must as you would get a sore back very quickly working with one of these at ground level. I am still splitting some of my wood by axe but anything tough goes on the Splitter. The Forest Master also has a three year guarantee. This for me has been a great buy and labour saver.

Well made but poor instructions
Have only used it a few times but so far it seems to tackle all types of logs and is much more robust than my prior Titan log splitter. It is a heavy piece of kit and was not easy to assemble on my own. The only issue that I have is that the pictorial instructions on how to put the stand together are very poor. The legs can be fitted in 2 different ways with only the drilled bolt holes giving an indication of the correct way round. It would have been better if the all the square tubes had a mark showing which way they should be fitted together. I notice that this has been mentioned by other reviewers. Finally I think that it would be safer to use if the push button to operate the electric motor was positioned at the back of the machine nearer to the operating handle. This would cause the operator to stand further away from any potential flying split logs.In terms of log splitting capability I would give it 5 stars

Fabulous splitter, but you might be better off legless.
This splitter bought to replace a 4 ton splitter from another manufacturer which wore out is a complete game change. Powerful and effective on logs which the previous one wouldn't even look at, this has the added convenience of a two speed mechanism and a ram limiter to cut down on delays while it recoils. The DuoCut blades are incredibly effective, even on knotted wood. BUT the supplied stand is very low. At 6' tall the switch on the motor which has to be pressed while operating is only knee height and even my 5'5" wife has to sit down to operate it without stooping. I asked the manufacturer if anything could be done (longer legs, extension tubes, anything) and was told that they are the longest legs available. Disappointing. I've had to remove the stand which was the reason for buying it in the first place and put it on a bench at a more convenient height. The stand is probably OK for occasional use, but for anything more than 10-15 minutes, you might be better to go legless and make your own arrangements.

Strong and Long Lasting
Bought this just over 6 years ago as my ageing shoulders could no longer cope with the impact of a splitting axe (maul). It is brilliant for what we needed, over the years has split many, many logs for our 2 x woodturning stoves, including several whole mature beech trees, AND IS STILL GOING STRONG!Pros - extreme strength and durability, deals with rounds of tree trunk up to circa 750 - 800mm diameter.Cons - extremely heavy (over 1.5 hundredweight), bulky to store. We got a table/stand with it but never use it as too heavy to lift onto it, instead we use it at ground level and just sit down beside it to operate it. It means you don't have to lift heavy rounds of tree trunk up so high either.I made a substantial 4-castor trolley to put the non-wheeled end on to move it about, raises the handle to a more back-friendly height.A useful tip is to keep it indoors or in a heated or at least well insulated shed to prevent condensation causing corrosion of the electric motor - I think this may be one reason why ours has lasted so well.
