Review: An insightful and funny view of life in a Parisian suburb - This is a really good novel as it conveys a lot of information in an interesting way (with lots of humour). It is ideal for young learners of French as AS/A level students can easily identify with the fictional author, Doria. She like them is a teenager facing many of the same situations and challenges people of her age face growing up in any country. Another specific set of issues facing her is that of having a mixed cultural background. Her family roots are in Morocco but she is very much French. The language isn't too difficult (although you will need a dictionary) and it is very funny. A superb read. Review: Great for modern slang French eg - Great for modern slang French eg: Verlan, life and times of nobody doing nothing really, which was probably the point?

Épatant!
Funny, clever, accessible if you're not a French native speaker. A true voice. So interesting to read if you are also familiar with the film La Haine, which is also set in the banlieus of Paris.

Three Stars
Mildly interesting. Simplistic writing, not really engaging.

Funny, insightful and current.
Great book about a modern, second-generation French Morrocan teenager. Excellent humour and insight into the everyday life and concerns of a 15 year old, living with her mum in a Paris HLM suburb. Great for catching up with modern slang and language. Happy ending really helps.

Highly recommend
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is quite an easy book to read in original version and is a good introduction to reading longer novels.

Schönes Buch in praktischer Größe
