Surf Science: An Introduction to Waves for Surfing

I liked the straightforward descriptive aspects of the book. The author does a nice job explaining the ideas at a non expert level.

If you are passionate about surfing and you want increase you knowledge of waves and elevate your surfing experience buy this book. Any truly avid surfer (like myself) should not only own this book but study it.

This book is fascinating and very approachable without being overly simplified. I'll never look at the ocean the same way again and I feel like I understand why my home break behaves the way it does. Would highly recommend for any surfer interested in boosting their knowledge about waves.

Ordered this for my son who is both a science geek and a young surfer for Christmas and everyone who’s picked it up has said “Woah, this is cool!”. The photo and illustrations are nice and the science is though yet not intimidating.Thanks!

Informative and entertaining book to learn the basics. I really much enjoyed readind it.

The book reads like a textbook and doesn't seem to translate to a functional knowledge. If you want to nerd out on TMI maybe you'd like it, I wanted to be able to read water better and that was not accomplished.

I'm about half way through this book now and I can't put it down. As an absolute beginner on the topic, I found exactly what I was looking for in this book. Short concise chapters that are easy to read and understand, accompained with great diagrams to help. The author keeps things simple where needed and also mentions other titles that expand in detail and complexity, the science and maths behind the various topic. I'm very pleased and will probably look for other titles from this author in future. Thank you.

This is an excellent book which does well to communicate the "basics" without overwhelming the reader. There's plenty of detail and some good explanations of the science. When I say basics, don't think the content isn't there - it's just I'm sure he could have gone into a lot of unnecessary depth (for me) which would have only served to confuse. Here the balance is just right.

The book is a straightforward demystification of the mystery of ocean swell. Good diagrams for the uninitiated explain concepts which are normally difficult to visualize.
