Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C Sample, Wood Stain, Pure, 100 mL

Very interesting product, I bought it mostly out of curiosity. I thought the 20 ml size was intended for color matching or just testing. Much to my surprise, you can actually complete a small project with 20ml. Revolutionary. I’m not one to put paint on beautiful wood, but this product allows color to be used without obliterating the natural grain, allowing me to achieve effects I didn’t know I could. And while I can’t disagree that on a cost per volume basis, it is pricey, I have to admit that I much prefer this to sealing up a barely used quart of finish only to find it ruined the next time I need that product. I could foresee having space in my finishing cabinet. That would be novel. Application could not be simpler or more foolproof. A truly satisfying experience. Pretty much goof proof, low odor, environmentally friendly and predictable results. I didn’t use the accelerator and didn’t have much of an issue with cure time in my climate controlled shop, Minimal surface preparation and actually a one step finish. Rebellious!!! Recommended.

The color is REALY strong. I used it mixed with the pure version in a ratio of 12:1 and it was still rather red, but I love the product

We've tested a number of Rubio products and are impressed with all of them. They're foolproof and totally safe for our family. The Monocoat seems bet suited to use on previously unfinished hardwood furniture, and does not work well on plywood. The coverage is pretty good, though I've found it doesn't go quite as far as the manufacturer indicates. Easy to apply with just a standard staining pad - one for application and one for wiping off. Make sure to sand to a smooth finish and you will see sanding marks after application if not sanded well (but this is true of most finishes). It definitely works best when mixed with Part B as it takes a long time to cure otherwise. You can purchase the Part B Accelerator together with the color or purchase smaller quantities of the Part A and Part B separately. It is so so easy to apply, hardly has any smell, and washes off with water. The finish is not glossy at all, but it feels like it really protects the wood. I discovered it specifically when looking for a completely non-toxic, no VOC product to finish a bookshelf in our baby's bedroom. I feel totally confident that it's safe for my family and couldn't be happier with the results. We've used it on both projects that get heavy use and are rarely touched and the finish holds up well under all circumstances. For exterior applications they also have Exterior Hybrid Wood Protector. The Look IPE color in this product seems fairly similar to the Ice Brown in the Monocoat. The Exterior Hybrid Wood Protector is equally awesome and easy. We used it on two unfinished exterior doors and even some interior furniture that gets heavier use (i.e. kitchen table and desk).

Wipe it on wipe it off doesn’t get any better than that honestly, I don’t like using any other stains or finishes besides Rubio! Even as a professional you just get spoiled I highly recommend this to anyone who’s trying to stain any kind of furniture or any finish product as a diyer!

I was impressed with the easy application and overall performance of this product, but the resulting color wasn't quite what I expected — I'd hoped for a more natural look. The process I followed included: Starting with pine, sanded to 120-grit with an orbital sander; torching the wood to make the grain stand out; final sanding with 220-grit; then applying the Monocoat sample Application was easy, and the finish performs well, but the color came out different from what I anticipated. I'll likely tone it down with a light pecan stain overcoat to get closer to the look I was going for. Buying a sample first was absolutely the right call before committing to a full can — glad I tested it rather than guessing on the final result.

Rubio monacoat worked amazing. The white finish really brought out the light colors of the spalted Hackberry. I had never used the white before but it worked amazing and made the rest of the wood look incredible as always. It's my favorite finish. A little on the expensive side but it brings out the natural look of any wood you put it on. Will definitely buy this product again.

Works well and takes a long time to expire. It doesn’t work well with light, moderate, or heavy adhesive ls by accidents not even sodas..

Fantastic result as always. I never cease to be amazed by how far this stuff goes. Built three 25x25x11 cabinets with a back for a client, coming to around 75sf needing to be finished. I re-did three sides, so came close to 80sf. I bought three bottles, and used a bit over 1.5. The client then used the remaining oil to finish a 5' x 12' section of their wall. Easy to apply, looks good, protects well. Just a solid product.

So easy to use. Gives great coverage. So pleased with the outcome on a small pine table which had ring marks and scratches on it. Now I can't see them and it has given a much richer darker effect than the orangey horrible pine it originally was. I love the smell as well not chemically but just a nice gentle oil based smell. Great product and a little goes a long way.
