Great read for smaller children, probably 1-2 years

I recently purchased "Julia Donaldson's Dormouse Has a Cold: A Lift-the-flap Story" for £4, and it exceeded my expectations. The lift-the-flap feature adds an interactive element, making the story engaging for young readers. The easy-to-read font ensures a smooth experience, and the sturdy hardback with thick board pages makes it durable for little hands. It's a delightful addition to our collection, perfect for my baby to enjoy as she grows. Highly recommend for a fun first read!

Dormouse has a cold is an absolute delight! The rhymes are fun and flow beautifully, and the pop-up pages are full of colour and surprise. It’s a charming, funny story.. my child loved every page I am collecting the set for my babies ..

My daughter LOVES the Acorn Wood books, we have them all! This is another great story but in my opinion it’s slightly let down by the reference to taking pills. It’s a children’s book, couldn’t it just have said “Take your medicine and try to get some rest”? It’d be quite a good book for explaining to a young child about going to the doctors when they’re poorly, but the last thing I want to encourage is my 3 year old taking pills of any kind.

A compelling read that will keep you turning the pages. While the protagonist may seem like an innocent mouse, this story provides a fascinating insight into the healthcare system of Acorn Wood. Able to get a walk-in appointment with Dr Stoat on the day that she came down with a cold rather than waiting in a telephone queue at 8am to be triaged, Doormouse quite literally opens the door to a healthcare system that is clearly very well funded. As the tale progresses, one is left to wonder, and I’m sure this was done to make the readers think deeply, if all patients were like Doormouse and all doctors were like Dr Stoat, would the system still work so well? Firstly, visiting the surgery because of a simple cold seems excessive. Why couldn’t she treat her symptoms with over the counter medication? Secondly, what exactly did Dr Stoat prescribe when Doormouse was told to take a pill each day. One can only hope that it wasn’t an unnecessary prescription of antibiotics for a simple virus. The story takes a dark twist when Doormouse is bed bound and visited by her friends. The reader is left questioning how ill she really is when one sees the expression on her face upon receiving a box of chocolates. The compassion shown by Fox, Mole and Blackbird may have been unnecessary. Their characters contrast directly with Doormouse and the reader may well ponder upon the recipient’s deceit. This is only further enhanced when on only the next page, Doormouse is found on the ferris wheel at the Acorn Fair. All in all, it is a thought provoking novel which leaves the reader with more questions than answers about healthcare provision in Acorn Wood.

Our favourite collection, we love the author and illustrator. These are my son's favourite and we read them all every night

My Great Granddaughter loved this book. She had to go to the doctors the day the book arrived. It has been read with her about 50 times now Shevrelates to her visit to Dr.

Beautiful book and addition to the Acorn Wood series! My children especially enjoy the last pages where dormouse is at the acorn fair— always exciting to see a Ferris Wheel!
