Does it work? How long does it take to effect?

Some of these answers seem to be referring to another Nytol product. I find the Nytol Herbal Simply Sleep One-A-Night tablets to be effective. I take 1 tablet 1 hour before going to bed. These tablets have no taste or smell. The other product is Nytol Herbal tablets which have an odd taste and smell. I find them to be ineffective.

why do they smell so bad?

I do not notice and smell in the packet. Each tablet is individually sealed and I have not noticed any unpleasant taste in my mouth when swallowing the tablet. so cannot explain why you think "they smell so bad"
