How big is a large size what size Alf is a largesize

My husband has edema and his calf is 17” and shoe size is 10 1/2. According to chart he’s large, but I’m wearing them (with no edema) because they’re too tight on him. He can get them up himself with difficulty, but they cut off his circulation. Just ordered him an XL. Hoping for a better experience.

Do these come in a smaller shoe size at all? They're perfect, other than I wear a size 7 shoe, so the feet on these are huge for me.

I think, but am not 100% sure, that the Medium refers to size abd the letters refer to different color options within the size.
