This book is an amalgamation of 4 previous books by Patti Medaris Culea and for a cloth doll enthusiast on a tight budget it is a "must have"! Taking you from the basics to way beyond,Patti will teach you how to make fantastic dolls of your own. The instructions are clearly written, the photographs are clear and detailed and there are plenty of pattern pieces to choose from as the patterns provided are for dolls of the same size & are interchangeable plus patterns for clothing. However this doesn't mean that all of the dolls look alike, painting and sculpting faces,painting and dyeing fabrics and trims and the oh so fabulous beading make each one individual. As well as dolls by the author herself this book features dolls from other cloth doll artists as inspiration. I have but one complaint,there is a piece that talks about making a wire armature to make you doll free standing but details aren't provided on how to sew the doll once you've done that. Over all I LOVE THIS BOOK!

This book is full of really good ideas but I don't think you would benefit much if you havn't made any dolls yet. Alot of the information is advanced for beginners but the book is very intersesting if you want to expand your knowledge of cloth doll making. This book contains the best bits from Patti's last four books and there is a gallery full of inspiration from lots of different fibre artist's. I think this is the best book I have seen so far on this subject. I like the format, the picture quality is outstanding and fire's the imagination, the resources section is global and there are plenty of templates to try new ideas. I find this book totally delightful and it takes prime position on my bookshelf.

A WONDERFUL BOOK, WITH REALLY BEAUTIFUL PICTURES, VERY CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS, THE BIG CHOICE IS WHICH TO START WITH. I ALREADY HAVE LOTS OF PIECES OF MATERIAL, SO I LIKE THE BOOK SAYS HAVE A GOOD CHOICE, I HAVE PURCHASED LOTS OF WOOL FOR THE HAIR, BUT THE BEST WAY IS TO MAKE ONE UP FIRST THEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY WITH DESIGNING OTHERS EASIER. WHETHER TO DO THE ARMS AND LEGS IN BODY COLOUR OR IN CLOTHES COLOUR. INVEST IN DOLL NEEDLES, AND FORCEPS, I ALSO SEW MY DOLLS TOGETHER (ARMS AND LEGS TO BODY) WITH DENTAL FLOSS MUCH LONGER LASTING THAT WITH JUST COTTON. THE ONLU PROBLEM IF YOU MAKE STANDING DOLLS IS SUPPORT, BUT YOU COULD MAKE ONE ESPECIALLY FOR THEM. GO ON HAVE FUN, GET THE BOOK FROM AMAZON LIKE ME.

As a starter in this field, even though I make clothes, soft toys etc I was looking for a "handholding" book for my first foray into doll making and I'm not disappointed. It's a very comprehensive guide which takes you all through the basics of creating cloth type figures. Lots of illustrations on "how to" complete patterns and style tips. All you need is time and imagination. So my first pattern is traced and now it's go! There are lots of methods for creating beautiful faces, hair, garments, clothing, a wide variety of surface design techniques including dyeing, painting, stamping, beading, applique, hand and machine embroidery, image transfers. I may be gone some time And as a bonus there is a gallery of dolls at the back showing how other designers have used these patterns - inspirational!

I love this book. The photos of the dolls are fantastic. I'm not sure if it is suitable for a beginner though, I feel a certain amount of previous experience is needed just to work your way around the patterns. It can also get quite confusing when it gives directions as it tends to jump around using different patterns from different dolls. Not in my opinion easy if you had never made a doll before, in saying that the dolls when made do turn out very well. This book would be helpful for most doll makers

And what a collection it is - from the gorgeous to the grotesque. I'm not sure that it really is a beginners book though it does start with a basic pattern but it is certainly inspirational and I am very pleased that I decided to buy it. I am just starting doll making (only 1 made so far) and this book has given me some wonderful ideas for future projects. I think that anyone interested in the art of cloth doll making should seriously consider adding this book to their library, the costumes for dolls and ideas for hair and so on are amazing. I shall certainly be referring to this book constantly and would definately recommend it.

Excellent book, full of useful information, good diagrams and wonderful ideas. Avery useful resource book. I had to stop and study one or two of the instructions quite carefully until they made sense, but very happy with my purchase. It is a much thicker book than anticipated and good value for money.

This book has everything you need. The instructions are very detailed and there are plenty of patterns included. There are many inspirational examples by different doll artists to show what can be achieved. I loved the beadwork as well and there are instructions for that too, it is extremely good value.

同じ作者の本をほかにも買っていて 以前、レビューも書きました。 こちらは現時点で最新の本です。 今までの集大成といったかんじで、とても分厚いです。 いっぱい写真があるので この本は今までで一番のお気に入りです。 でも、私はこのタイプの人形を作っているわけではありません。 じつのところ、こういう大人の女性顔のファッションドールより もっと可愛くて年齢も小さい少女の人形が好きです。 テディベアも作っています。 では、なぜこの作者の本を買うのかというと ベアや人形のさまざまな衣装を考えるとき、 すばらしい参考になるからなのです。 この海外の人形作家には 驚くほどさまざまなアイデアがあります。 妖精のような雰囲気や どこの国なのかかわからない、おとぎ話のような不思議なかんじ。 でも何か懐かしいような異国の雰囲気を 異質の素材を組み合わせて作っています。 人形そのものを作らなくても 自分の持っている人形に、変わった衣装を着せたいときにも いいのではないでしょうか。 また、ヒューマン型の人形である必要はないので ベアやうさぎ、ネコなどに服を着せたアートドールを作る方にも 衣装の参考になるかと思います。 材料はたやすく手に入るものですが こんなアイデアはなかなか思いつくことができません。 今回も豊富な内容と斬新な色使いで ほんとうに楽しませてくれました。 見て、楽しみ、自分の手持ちの布や小物で 考えてみたいという目的でまた買ってしまいました。 人形のための装飾から 自分でつけたいアクセサリー作りなどのイメージもわいてきます。 なかみが見られるようになっているので 共感する方もいらっしゃると思いますが実際、見ているだけで 心がときめき、わくわくする本でした。 もちろん、こういった人形をつくりたいひとには しっかりとした作り方の基礎や豊富な型紙つきで 説明も英語を読まなくても 丁寧な図解ですぐわかるなオススメの本です。
