Only Wildflower Travel Guide I Know Of - A Great Beginning!
This is the perfect book for wildflower enthusiasts, who want to see wildflowers worldwide! This is the ONLY resource I know of that gives you any scope of the opportunities throughout the world to find wildflowers. I've had a great time exploring this book, and even am using it to plan an upcoming trip. I hope Bob Gibbons puts out a book (or website) that expands on this, with far more places to see -- as well as more details on tours, how to get there, where to stay, what one can expect to see when -- a Wildflower Travel Guide!!!!

... john Muir and every one else rates it the best wildflowers in the world
Mt Rainier the crown jewel just as john Muir and every one else rates it the best wildflowers in the world. If you want the same view of wild flowers without the people and a great view of Mt Rainier but a 13 mile hike go to Goat Rocks.

An Okay book
The quality of photos are fair at times. Botanical names not used in photo captions which seems to do the reader a disservice.

Spectacular Wildflower Sites
Since falling in love with wildflowers on the hills in Israel in 1987, I have kept an eye out for wildflowers wherever I go, so I was delighted to read Gibbons' book. This hardcover book of 192 pages has 200 full colour photographs of the spectacular beauty of the meadows in pristine wilderness around the world including close-ups as well as panoramic views of the landscape. The narrative briefly describes the climate, travel conditions and what kind of flowers one can expect to see. An information map show the geographic location and outlines the reasons to go there, best timing to view the flowers and the protected status of the area.Page after page of breathtaking pictures of the unusual wildflowers of each region are a feast for the eye and a joy to behold. There is also a species list, useful contacts and details of tour operators to help plan one's field trip. Other magnificent locations to see wildflowers that have not been featured in the book are also listed by country.I live surrounded by paddocks of verbena and many native Australian wild grasses, orchids and other wildflowers and was delighted to see the stunning colours of the Stirling Range and Kwongon Heaths of Western Australia featured in the book.Wild birds and animals love wildflowers not just for food and shelter but also their medicinal properties. I've seen birds throng to drink heartily from a pot where the fallen petals of may flowers have been soaking. Many creatures that are unable to survive in urban areas thrive in the wild amongst the wild in nature's safe spots that still remain. The Hoary Marmot of Waterton Lakes, the silver-studded blue butterflies of Southern Transylvania, and the ringed-plover in the machair of the Outer Hebredes are some of the wildlife pictured in the book.I loved reading about the giant orchids of Cypress, the anemones of Crete, the shimmering pink and purple hues of the wood cranesbill and bistort in the Upper Nerrayroux Valley. The golden hillside of the Carrizo Plain National Monument in California reminded me of the paddocks of yellow acacia's and yellow buttons growing wild around my home.I recommend this book to anyone who loves the beauty of wildflowers and the spectacular array of colour in nature's fields, whether or not you are planning a trip round the world's best wildflower sites.

A wonderful book
This is an absolutely beautiful book, the results of Bob Gibbons' travels around the world. I've used it to plan some of my flower photography trips, and it lead me to wonderful places that I never would have found on my own. I've traveled with Bob on several of his Natural History Tours, and found that he is an open, interesting, and extremely friendly guide.

Great book for the beginner wanting more knowledge of the subject.
This is the first book I've read on this subject. While it has been a bit limited about the particular places I have been to it has widened my overall knowledge of this wonderful natural resource.
