Fiskars Xact Digging Spade Large, Length: 120 cm, Steel blade/fibreglass reinforced plastic handle, Black/Orange, Size: L, 1003683

I took a chance on this spade and I'm pleased I did. I've been using it for the last three days while converting my garden into an edible forest garden. It's involved digging holes for new trees through a range of soils including areas that are dense with existing roots from other trees, stony soil and the very mixed soil on top of a Cornish wall. Having a spade the right size for my height helps, having one with sharpened point helps too. I'm stamping the spade in and then rocking it back and forth and it works a treat. I'm 5'10 and about 11 stone and it's hard to imagine breaking this spade unless I used it as crowbar. In places I'm moving root masses from established bushes like fuscias and the spade is cutting around and under them well. The spade feels sturdy with good welds and a nice finish on the metal surface of the spade. I'm sure the finish will wear of around the edge, but that will be fine and allow it to be resharened at some time in the future. The handle is comforatble to use all day. It was heavier than I expected but not much heavier than an old smaller spade we have. Overall I would happily recommend it and see no reason why it should not last a very long time.

Really great spade! Been using it on a variety of tough jobs. First impressions the metal making the actual spade end looked quite thin and it really feels quite lightweight, put it too work on some really tough dry clay like soil. Smashed it in with my foot a lot and levered off lumps of clay, no problem at all. The length and fact that's it is light made it very comfortable to use. It does bite in to hard soil very well, obviously if the floor is ultra hard and rocky then a pick axe may be needed as well, but this can really help out destroying tough layers of hard soil. Also used it as a shovel to empty bags of pea shingle and sand etc, it was more comfortable and light to use than my shovel when working with heavy aggregates. It has quickly become my new favourite spade!

Getting on a bit, I bought the medium size of this spade to replace an older one. The weight difference is a blessing. This is so easy to use, perfectly balanced and the dished head helps to lift the earth so it's marvellous for turning-over and planting. I'm 5'6" and this is the max handle length for me - anyone shorter would find the smallest spade more convenient, perhaps.

great product, great quality, quick delivery! I have tried it already in my garden, it is lightweight, sharp, cuts the soil as a knife cuts the butter ! I don't think that there is something better on the market in this price range, highly recommend to anyone!

Definitely a very good item but much heavier than I anticipated. I have austio arthritis and find heavy tools difficult to handle.

Great ergonomic design, lightweight bit strong. Ideal for hard stoney ground. Handle length is right to give the right amount of leverage which makes the work easy I am a man in my late sixties but had no trouble using this tool. I highly reccomend it and have also bought the pick axe. No I am not on a commission but have bought many tools that make the work hard and this tool has made me think that spending a bit more money sometimes is very much worth it.

OK, so this isn't a cheap spade by any means, but wow do you get what you pay for. This thing feels engineered rather than built and feels genuinely nice to wield. It's relatively light and yet cuts through heavy soil and plant roots like a knife through butter. Having used it for a few weeks now and dug out countless rose bushes, shrubs, weeds and just about anything else you care to mention, I wish I'd bought it ages ago. If you want the best then just buy the thing. I'm so impressed I've just ordered the shovel from the same range.

Having owned a number of other "Fiskars" tools, my personal experiences with them have been rather pleasing, hence the reason I decided to spend a little more and purchase this. Whilst using the tool, it did feel like a quality tool to begin with, light digging of a vegetable plot was fine, but the blade continued to clog with soil easily. Ultimately while trying to dig up stubborn weeds for transplanting, the handle decided to snap into two. As another review said, once the handle had snapped the spade shows its true form. What I'm referring to here is the very short steel handle up to about 3" beyond the black plastic which is ridiculous. Surprisingly, Fiskars even boast a 25 year guarantee with this tool, although the fact was I didn't even get two hours out of this tool. In summary, this garden tool is a simple yet overpriced plastic handled spade with no steel, wood or other reinforcement for a foot of its length, which is clearly not acceptable. For these numerous reasons, I would certainly not recommend this product for those that value the time spent in their gardening (everyone obviously!) Non sono un agricolo professionista, ma credo questa sia un ottima vanga. Alla prima impressione mi sembrava un po' troppo leggera e sottile, ma dopo averla usata su un terreno secco argilloso, non posso che parlarne bene. Comoda, si maneggia un gran bene per via del grip e attraversa il terreno come un coltello nel burro per via della lama molto sottile. E' sprovvista di vangile perché la pressione per andare più in profondità la fai su un bordo fatto apposta nella parte superiore alla lama. L'ho utilizzata anche come pala per svuotare sacchi di ghiaia e sabbia. Questa versione è Large, è lunga 120cm ed è adatta per persone dai 1.75m -1.95m, Pesa sui 2 Kg Il tempo ci dirà se è durevole ma, ha comunque 25 anni di garanzia. Per ora vale ogni centesimo (costa meno di un abbonamento in palestra e non è fatica sprecata).

Cette pelle bêche est une merveille! Après avoir utilisé des outils bas de gamme (3) qui se sont disloqués après une utilisation normale je cherchais une pelle bêche pour réaliser des travaux d'aménagement et de plantation dans un sol dur et caillouteux. Après 4 mois d'usage intensif je suis 100% satisfait après avoir réalisé des fosses (anti-rhizome) pour des bambous ainsi qu'un bassin. cet outil a gardé son tranchant et le métal ne s'est pas tordu après des efforts extrêmes. je recommande vivement ce produit.

Stanco delle solite vanghe da banco degli ipermercati che, o per il manico o per la scarsa qualità della lama, non duravano "due vangate" , ho optato per questo modello della Fiskars,della quale possiedo varie cesoie e troncarami di qualità egregia. Prendendola in mano si capisce subito che è un'altro genere di vanga,rispetto alle solite. In primo luogo la leggerezza ed il buonissimo bilanciamento del tutto. "Brandendola" si ha la sensazione della solidità dell'attrezzo. L'ho provata subito con ottimi risultati in terreni piuttosto difficili,pieni di sassi e dove già ho scavato anche con attrezzi tradizionali. Il risultato mi ha veramente stupito,tanto da spingermi a recensirla. Ho estirpato diverse radici di canneto di bambù riuscendo con una moderata pressione a tagliare addirittura le radici sotto al terreno. Ho scavato attorno ad un pino per piantarci dei fiori,anche le radici non sono un problema per questo attrezzo. Certo vangare rimane comunque faticoso,ma la forma ergonomica del manico e di tutta l'asta in generale,rendono molto più facili le leve per sollevare anche zolle belle pesanti,senza mai dare senso di cedimento, tra l'altro per quanto la caricassi non ho mai avuto la sensazione che cedesse da un momento all'altro tipica degli attrezzi tradizionali. Ho infine scavato in un terreno pieno di ciottoli e sassi per piantare 4 cespugli di arbusti. Anche contro mattoni e pietre grosse si riesce con la giusta leva a sollevare ed estirpare il rifiuto. La forma della lama la rende capace di entrare bene in qualunque terreno insidioso. Sono pienamente soddisfatto e mi sento di consigliarla a chi cerca un attrezzo solido e ben strutturato. Imballaggio e spedizione impeccabili.
