EP-014 SATA Disk to IDE/PATA 40Pin Motherboard Converter Adapter PCBA for Desktop & 2.5 3.5 inch Hard Disk Drive

As described in the title - this works really well with the original Xbox. I wanted to drop in a SATA solid state drive to replace a 22 year old mechanical drive (that hadn't been powered on for at least a decade until recently!). Somehow the original drive still worked but I didn't want to risk it. This adaptor has worked perfectly (although I did need to pick up an 80 pin IDE cable from Amazon for a couple of quid). I've bought IDE to SATA adapters in the past - I went with this one specifically this time for its ability to be switched between primary and secondary IDE channels (that's a blast from the past!). It made it easier for cloning the original drive. Good value.

Does a great job. Just what I needed to replace the IDE hard drive with SATA drive in my Humax PVR. Worked straight away. Excellent.

Wanted this to use an old 20GB SSD from a dead laptop in an even older tower PC. It connected up ok and the BIOS actually detected the drive first time, brilliant or so I thought. That was until the whole system then hung, until I removed the drive and rebooted. Now the PC doesn't see it all, despite the drive working in another machine. Despite trying different drives and on a different PC, this adaptor appears to now be totally dead. So a total of 5 seconds of life, at least the motherboard was unaffected as the PC detects IDE drives fine.

Most people would be interested in that to install a SATA drive into original Xbox. You would still need 80 wires IDE cable, though. It works just fine, and has a master/slave jumper on it for hotswap cloning.

Worked great on an Xbox, just remember to use the jumper appropriately as you may think something has gone wrong but actually the jumper just needed changing.

Unfortunately, the product I received started smoking when attempting to use in my 90's pc. I had it for less then 12 minutes, jumper was set to master, no other drives plugged in. Thankfully there was no fire, but it did burn its own trace at the ide port. The packaging was minimal, they only put the product in an anti-static bag, and was loose in an amazon packaging, without any sort of protection other then anti-static.

I already have a similar device, but the transfer is much worse. Thanks to USB 3.0, data transfer is more stable and faster, and additional external power is necessary for old HDDs

Der Adapter wird dafür genutzt, eine Sata SSD auf einem alten Pentium 2 board mit IDE Anschluss zu benutzen. Wurde problemlos erkannt, und Windows 98 liess sich einwandfrei darauf installieren, ohne irgendwelche zusätzlichen Treiber. Gewinnt keine Geschwindigkeitspreise, aber das war auch nicht das Ziel. Achtung: Das Board arbeitet anscheinend mit einer internen OS als Interface, denn wenn man die Platte von diese Adapter abzieht und diese versucht an einem anderen PC mit SATA Anschluss auszulesen findet man nur diverse nicht auslesbare Partitionen. Als Backup Methode daher eher nicht geeignet.

I have a legacy circa 2005 Pentium 4 based system that I want to keep running as is because it has specialized software running on it that cannot be re-installed on a fresh OS. It's running Windows XP SP2. The motherboard, in addition to the IDE HDD ports, has 2 SATA I ports. These are on the VIA chipset and they do not downgrade a SATA II device or higher down to SATA I. It's SATA one or the ports don't work. At first I set the jumpers on a SATA II HDD to force SATA I mode and that did work. But then I wondered if using this adapter and running the IDE cable to the new SSD that I cloned the original HDD to would be faster than the HDD SATA I drive. The answer is yes, this adapter with the SSD on the IDE channel is faster. One thing that is very interesting is that the original drive and the SSD have 3 NTFS partitions on them. The 2nd and 3rd partitions run significantly faster than the OS partion in CrystalDiskMark. I even re-arranged the partitions so that the C: partitiion/boot is 40GB and only 7% used and the CrystalDiskMark results aren't any better, so I guess that was not the reason. I don't know why the partitions produce different speed results. But the adapter works great. You have to be somewhat careful not to break it but now I have a new drive with my specialized apps on a 20 year old Windows XP system and it should run fine and at least 3x faster for a long time... (Don't worry, it's not connected to the internet.)

A lot of people would be looking for this item so they can upgrade the original Xbox with a sata hhd. This does work, however you will need to solder 101 and 103 SMD resistors to R4 and RH1 respective in order to get the max speed. If you’re not confident on soldering then its best to purchase the more expensive Startech.
