Great watch for a great price.
This is a lovely piece of work - especially the slightly plainer, clearer inner face. The spring action on the lid is nice and smooth - it took a little while to get used to how you open and close the back, but I can see why it's designed the way it is.The watch will run for about 30 hours on a full wind, so winding once a day is easily sufficient to keep it running. It keeps great time too - mine gains a little, but only a few minutes a week, which is more accurate than my old self-winding wristwatch! If you look closely, it's obvious that this isn't a posh, expensive watch, but if, like me, you're not sure if a pocket watch is for you, it's an ideal place to start. I really don't think you could get any better in this price range.

Perfect!
Bought as a wedding gift for my husband, he absolutely loves it. Love how both the front and the back open and that you can see the workings through the front even when these are closed. I had hoped to get it engraved for him but was advised that due to the back cover not opening to 90 degrees a message inside here would not be possible. There is however a small blank circle in the middle on the back which now has his initials in =) Very smart appearance.

So Far So Good
I bought this Mount Royal pocket watch based on appearance, being an Electrician to trade I am forbidden on Health and Safety grounds from wearing the more usual wristwatch. I am not a Jeweller but I have grown tremendously attached to this lovely watch, all my friends like it as well, and it has never let me down. I would recommend buying it to anyone, There is an almost identical Mount Royal pocket watch in a gold finish which some may prefer, but this silver one I bought has a real practicle but refined look about it that makes it more than just a device for telling the time. Like I said, I'm not an expert on Jewelery at all, this is a mechanical winding watch and if you are careful you can look in the opening in the centre of the watch as you are winding and with a little carefulness never overwind the watch as you can physically see the coiled spring through the gap and stop just at the right time. It seems to need a wind every ten hours or so but the act of doing so is just one of the many attractions. I have no complaints.

Does not last long.
I bought one of these about four years ago now and it kept running for only two and a half years. I did not over wind the watch, it just stopped running one day. However, while it ran it lost about two minutes a day and this was when it was brand new. Also the winding of the watch does not last very long, only about half a day, whereas my other watches exceed 24 hours with a full winding. In short, it is a pretty piece of kit, but it is pretty bad at telling the time.
