Just what was needed to solve picture breakup on Sky
Great service from Electrosmart and changed my signal strength from 70-80% to 100% At this price and simplicity, I would recommend anyone having problems with picture breakup to install one.

Cheap satellite signal amplifier worked for me.
With just one receiver box (a Humax Freesat), the signal via the satellite cable (from a shared dish in a block of flats) was sufficient, and I think we could access all channels the box could recognise. After adding another receiver box (a Technomate, non Freesat), and using a splitter to take the cables to each box, some channels that were available before showed as having insufficient signal strength. I considered a "multiswitch" with external power (for about ยฃ60), but this signal amplifier seemed plausible after reading that the satelite cable can carry a DC power supply "backwards" from the receiver box to this amplifier, without another external power supply. The splitter also showed a DC line on its diagram. For ยฃ5 it was worth a try, and it worked. With only one of the two machines switched on, the signal is back to normal, apparently full strength. With both machines switched on, one or two channels are intermittent - sometimes ok, sometimes showing insufficient signal strength. So it not a 100% fix for my set-up, but it is much better than just using the signal spitter with no ampifier before it. (The Technomate box has an option to switch on the the DC power to the satellite cable).

Worth a try for the money
I bought these to obviate a tuning problem with my LG telly. What started as a flakey tuning problem has gone to not getting itv hd at all. I can't damn these as none functioning as my TV could be on the blink. These have made the problem worse. I figured for the price, they're worth keeping in my box of tricks. I can't return them for a refund.

Forewarned but still bought
As with other reviewers I was forewarned ..... but as mentioned probably worth the punt. Took this to France to inprove the signal from a shared feed but it degraded the signal even more. Tried different receiver but still the same.

Most Excellent - IT WORKS
I have one freesat dish and two freesat boxes in different rooms in the house. The picture in one romm started playing up - picyure breaking up and picure freeze for no reason. I tried everything including swapping the two freesat boxes with each other - the one room still bad. When I checked the signal streth and quality ( Via the freesat box itself) in the bad room , the signal quality was less than the "good" room. I purchased this amplifier booster box, which was a bargin may I say . fitted it in line with the box. and hey preso no more problems any more . when I checked the signal quailty via the freeset box it indicated the quality when from around 65% to 85%. and the TV works great - can't recomend this box any more its Great

New LNB may be a better investment.
We have a tree covered hillside in the direction of the satellite so trees are restricting signal. Our Sky box showed a signal strength of around 70% and a quality of around 50% and yet some channels reported no signal. I bought this to boost the signal but although it upped the signal levels (90 to 100% for strength?) I still had the same message of no signal for some channels. I bought a new LNB and although the signal strength wasn't much higher, the quality was much better, and immediately all the channels were working again. Conclusion - it's better to invest slightly more in a new LNB (they seem to have a fairly limited lifetime) than try a booster. The booster will not help the quality issue which seems to be the important factor.

Boosted my signal.
I have been looking for some way to increase the signal strength on our Sky box before winter sets in. During heavy rain/snow our picture starts to break up on some channels due to reduced signal strength. I saw these and, even though there were a many reviews stating that they hadn't worked, decided to give them a go. If they didn't work I could always send them back. I purchased two as we have two channels from the dish to the Sky box. They arrived today and took about 10 minutes to fit. This consisted of: Unscrew the cable at the LNB. Screw on the supplied patch cable to the input side of the amplifier. Screw the other end of the short cable on to the LNB. Screw the end of the original cable on to the output side of the amplifier. Tidy up the cables. From previous experience with TV aerials you should fit any amplifiers as close to the aerial/LNB as possible. As you can see from the pictures, the did the job and boosted the signals. Cheers, Andy
