Great Drive. Fast, quiet, portable, convenient.
I really like this drive. I was needing a drive for my mac mini as the newer ones do not have a drive. I was wanting originally to go cheap with just a cd burner, but then realized I would not be able to watch movies. The cheaper ones you might be able to get for $18 to $20, but I spend the little bit extra for this one, $25, and it's so worth it.This drive is quiet, fast, portable, and convenient. Looks really really nice too. A glossy plastic finish makes it gorgeous.Pros: Small, thin, quiet, fast. Seems just as fast if not faster than my other mac mini that had a drive in it. It's great because it does not have an external power supply, just a cable with two usb ends on it going to a mini usb hooking into the drive. It does operate with just one, but I am sure it operates better and faster with two for more power. On my mac mini, sometimes I have to use the eject button at the top of osx menu bar. Doesn't bother me since all you have to do is click the button at the top or press the eject button on the keyboard. Sometimes the button on the drive does work.Cons: I honestly can't think of any. It's a really great product. With LG I felt much more confident in my purchase then when I was about to put some of the other cheaper uncommon brands in my shopping cart.I recommend this most of all because it works really well, is fast, beautiful, and quiet, and does not need an external power supply/brick.

Great for those who still go optical!
With technology leaving optical drives obsolete, it is necessary for those with clients who still use optical disks. Great, portable, and dependable. No problems. I only wish it used one USB slot rather than two.

Worst external dvd player ever
I've only had this for a year and after dropping it last night it would not eject the dvd I had in there. I looked online to find support but the manual wasn't even available. It was the WORST external dvd player I have ever used. Even when it WAS working it didn't work well! If I tried to play a dvd that had several scratches on it, the player would tell me that the disc was not supported. I'm old school and still rent movies or get them from the library and it was so frustrating not knowing if my dvd would work or not. I will NOT be buying this product again, nor will I recommend it to anyone else to buy. It was a piece of garbage!

Good for Data, but bad for DVD use
Installed the drivers on my Acer Netbook with Windows 7 with no problem. I didn't install the Norton application since I already have that installed. Read data and music CDs without a problem. However, when I tried to get it to read/watch a DVD movie...problem. Wouldn't even load the movie and I couldn't find a fix on the internet. I returned it!

Great optical drive for Macbook Air or Mac Mini but not perfect!
This LG optical drive works great and it is fully compatible with Macbook air and Mac miniI bought this as a primary driver for my macbook air which doesn't have optical drive, and i was tired to set remote disk from another computer(Slow, and depending on the wifi connection)This optical drive works even in mac os x recovery mode via usb, that means you can load the drive or OS X disk to reinstall system also, just simply hold option button on your keyboard and the drive is gona display it on your screen just like it should be. so quite and fast!but after i use this on mac os x 10.7 Lion, i found there are some issues for using this LG drive.you can not physically eject the disk(which is inside already) by pressing the ejection button on the optical drive neither works on the ejected button on macbook air keyboard.the only way you can eject the existing disk in the drive is have to click the icon on the screen and do a software ejection. and sometimes, the optical drive is not detected on mac os x and that time you have to unplug the usb cable and connect it again until the OS X detect it then display the icon on the desktop.......

I do karaoke and have been using cdg's with a karaoke machine and sound system. I always wanted karaoke in a computer and opted to buy a cavs for around $800.00 to do karaoke. The computer has or had I should say a karaoke program built into it. Well Low and behold, it crashed! The pc uses windows seven and somehow I lost all my karaoke music, including the so called $400.00 karaoke program that was customed installed in it at the factory, all because I attempted to delete a few unwanted files or songs whichever you want to put it. Of course I was greatly dissapointed. So back to the disks. I also own a macbook pro and use Itunes for my DJ work. What a blessing!. I have over 80,000 songs in my macbook pro for parties. I wanted to do the same for my karaoke collection. Now enters this LG super multi drive and KJams, a karaoke program designed for mac and pc's. The built in drive in my macbook was not compatible to read or write cdg's thru KJams, but this little baby is. The program works just like i tunes. All I have to do is plug the Lg into the two usb ports, after downloading KJams, load the cd'g into the drive and like magic, this little wonder plays and then rips the songs into my hard drive just like itunes, no tricks, no nonsense. I b ought the original LG at a Best Buy for around $30 or $40.00. I just ordered a refurbished one as a backup. I now have karaoke in my mac, complete with lyrics on the screen for around $43.00 for the lite program. I probably will soon upgrade to the pro program, mabye when Uncle Sam sends me my tax refund. You know, it's amazing, but also a little dishearting to think that for a measley $43.00, I am now able to do what a $800.00 Karaoke computer, a computer I might add was not able to do. Lesson to be learned here, when you think computers, think apples, not oranges. Oh and buy the way, in case you didn't know, you can run windows programs on a mac, without incident. Nuff said.

Can't beat it for the money
Have had mine since 2012, going on seven years. I use it only to rip CDs. I've burned well over a 1000 CDs with it. No problems. I bought mine originally for like 25$, gone up slightly but still a great value.

Reads CD+G OK
I bought this to be able to rip some old Karaoke disks to the computer to make them easier to access. I played back a few to confirm it was working and a definately see some drop outs in the on screen CD+G text. Not terrible, but certainly not perfect.
