Laurel & Hardy Volume 3 - Way Out West/Shorts [DVD]

This is my fav L&H episode! WAY OUT WEST is just so funny, I have watched this many times and still makes me laugh! The colour version on the DVD is very good and I think Laurel and Hardy act out well in this and you can tell they are enjoying it too! The song and the dance they do in it is brilliant and my fav bit is the scene with the donkey, but I won't say nothing more incase there are new viewers and fans to Laurel and Hardy, but the whole DVD is brilliant and worth having just for way out west, but the extras on it are very good too!

What can I say! Being a Laurel & Hardy fan since I was in my teens (I am now 70), I have collected a lot of L&H movies and shorts over the years. This dvd really exceeded my expectations. Way out West is a classic L&H, and no matter how many times I watch it, I can't help laughing out loud all over again. The dance routine outside the saloon, and singing "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" shows how much diversity these 2 guys had, and the mule ending up on the balcony - pure vintage L&H. I was reluctant at first to buy this dvd, because I have often found that "digitally remastered" left a lot to be desired with movies as old as this, but this particular release is well worth owning, and the picture quality is excellent. The colourized version is also well done, but might not appeal to the "purists" among L&H fanatics. The two added shorts are also very good, my favourite being "Thicker Than Water", but "One Good Turn" also has some good moments. I highly recommend this dvd to anyone interested in Laurel & Hardy.

Kings of comedy.

Simply the Best. Way out West was and still is the "coup de grace" of in my humble opinion, the funniest pairing of comedians EVER to hit the silver screen and how fortunate I consider myself to have lived through an era when their films were still available? With so many wonderful moments in this film,when Ollie continuously finds the deep hole in the lake,the dance routine with The Avalon Boys,the Song Duet,the steak "leather sole",and lots more.And the 2 classic shorts also in Black and White or Colour "One Good Turn" and "Thicker than Water" with James Finlayson. A 5 ***** cert!

A long time since I last saw Way Out West so I decided to buy this collection of one feature and two short films by L & H. I was particularly interested in the colorized version of the feature film. Turns out it was one of the first films to be colorized by semi-automatic computer methods in the early 1980s. It doesn`t look too bad, the colour is rather subdued but sadly it looks as if it was carried out using a standard definition video as the image quality is decidedly poor when compared with the black and white version on this disc. The colorized version also looks as if it originated on a NTSC video which has then been standards converted for this PAL disc. The bleary image, particularly on camera moves, suggests this and the fact that the film runs ever-so-slightly longer the black and white PAL transfer. Technical grumbles aside, it`s a great old movie. What did he die of? He died of a Tuesday.....

In this film Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy travel way out west to find a lady named Mary Roberts to give her a gold mine that once belonged to her late Father, but when they find out that they've given it to the wrong lady there's a lot of trouble I think that this film even in black and white is very good indeed especially when Stan puts a piece of meat into his shoe to cover up the hole and all the dogs come and try to eat it. When I was watching it I thought how well the script was written and how good the actors were. I also enjoyed the fact that Stan is always doing silly things and Oliver is always trying to stop him. Over all I would say that there are no bad things to say about Laurel and Hardy Way Out West!

I learned through this purchase that not all DVD players will play all DVDs. I had to buy a new player, which I could find only on line, to play this DVD because the DVD has some sort of regional code that makes it incompatible with most players sold in the US. I had to buy a player labelled "region free" and "code free".

Why on earth would Amazon sell a dvd that does not play in the untied states!!!! This makes no sense! Do I need to scrutinize every purchase I make! Why on earth would I think this dvd WOULD NOTNPLAY IN THE USA! This is a scam!
