We had previously owned a "Pet Vacuum" and it just didn't go a good job. So when it was time to replace our old one I did my due diligence and searched the internet for the best one I could afford. I read both good and bad reviews to get a feel for what people are saying about a product. A Dyson was out of the question due to price, so I was after the best value. Some of the negative comments regarded the fact that the Kenmore Elite was not self-propelled, it was somewhat heavy, the height adjustment wasn't automatic and the hose was too short. BUT, it worked very well. After looking over other brands and options, I bought the Kenmore Elite Upright 31150.I was not disappointed! Yes, you have to manually adjust the height. No big deal. I need to do that once when I vacuum as we have shorter nap rugs in one area of our home. I then start in that area the next time. It is not self-propelled, but that's okay because if you have the height adjusted correctly, it will gently pull itself forward. Most of us need more physical activity anyway! I know I do. The hose is short-ish, but works for most of what I need to do with it and there is a wand for extra reach. The wand extends nicely. There are a couple of handy attachments as well, especially the mini-brush that spins using the force of the suction.We have three cats, one of which is a long hair who leaves piles of fine hair everywhere and the Elite has no trouble getting those out of our short nap carpet.Suction power is outstanding and when using attachments actually needs to be managed with the airflow gate on the hose. Maneuverability is fine, but because it isn't propelled by anything other than the spinning brush, it does take a little more effort than a self-propelled model. It is not "light weight", but I don't care about that. Like I mentioned, I like the physical aspect of using the machine.Regarding comments that said the brushes wear out; What are these folks doing to make that happen??? Even when I have the height set lower than it should be (which you should realize immediately as the vacuum wants to pull fairly hard) I still cannot imagine wearing the brush out that fast. We've had this vacuum for some time and I've very happy with it.A blue light on the nose of the machine lights up when you activate the brush then goes out after about 5 seconds. It will come on again when you go over an area with extra debris. My wife thinks it's a gimmick, but I like it because it will make me go over that area slowly until the light extinguishes, ensuring it's clean. This is typically where the felines favorite resting spots are, or near the entries to the house or around the fireplace. The LED "headlights" work great as well and really light up dark areas under furniture or in corners.The vacuum does have a bag which I much prefer over the canister type vacuums as all dust, hair and dander is contained. There are also exhaust air filters. All of these work beautifully.I don't have any Cons on this one; I love it and would by it again.

Woah what an amazing machine! We’re having a bit of a flea problem at the moment and I do see the difference in just a few days of using this vacuum. I changed the vacuum bag and woah it was super heavy and had sucked out all the dirt and what not my older vacuum couldn’t get. Assembly was super easy too. This vacuum has three motors so it’s pretty powerful sucking action with a rotating brush. It looks durable and I think it will last a long time. Size is perfect fits neatly in my closet. Overall very satisfied.

——Preface:We have had a dozen vacuums over the last several years. Bagged and bag less. All high end of the product line, plug in, uprights by Shark, Hoover, Bissell, and Dyson. Everything we buy is researched thoroughly and well reviewed. We have also currently have an $890 Miele C3 Pet canister style vacuum.——The package:Shipped fast and arrived in one piece.Very simple assembly that needs just a single screw to be tightened.——Initial impression:Accessory storage is brilliant.Critically, the power cord is very long.Height adjustment is simple. Power and floor mode selector is very easy to use.——-Operation:Extremely powerful. Probably the most powerful actual suction strength of anything we’ve used short of a 5hp shop vac. Simply devours dirt and dog hair. We have medium pile carpet. Beach sand, clay dust, grit and endless piles of dog hair. It’s just amazingly effective at cleaning carpet. For perspective I’d say the the Miele is 80% as effective at 3x $$$, the Dyson was 2x$$$ and about the same effectiveness as the Miele, the Sharks were 1.5x $$$ and even less effective with everything else being even less effective that them.Pro: well built, highly effective and has long cord.Pro: excellent price for this level of performance.Pro: it’s bagged which I have come to strongly prefer over bagless.Con: sort of… make sure you aren’t running to low a height setting or the massive suction will make this a little difficult to push over rugs and thicker carpets.—— Bottom line: very pleased with this vacuum and strongly rexommend it to anyone looking for a ridiculously effective bagger.

The only thing I wish this vac had but doesn’t is a swivel head. It’s relatively easy to use other than that. Pickup is great. Size is fine. It is heavy but so was my last vacuum and I don’t have to carry it upstairs so that doesn’t matter much to me. The cord is longer than my last vac so the range is better. Also the plug on my last vac would get very warm during use and this one does not. Definitely great value for the price. I need the height adjustment for my carpet. The adjustment is easy and works fine.

I have severe dust and mite allergies, and this takes care of my issues. It replaces my old The Boss vacuum cleaner...and that means everything for this allergy sufferer. Plus, it has great suction, a dirt sensor light, it's easy to maneuver, it has a long cord, and it traps the dust in the HEPA filter bag. Replacing The Boss wasn't an easy task, but Kenmore has done a good enough job of it, and this vacuum is worth it's weight in gold.

I originally purchased this based on a comprehensive Consumer Reports article on vacuum cleaners. I had it for 5 years with heavy, daily usage for 5 kids and multiple indoor pets. I ordered a new one on May 22, 2021 and my previous 5 star review is now a 3. See below.Overall, it is an awesome straight forward vacuum. Excellent suction, decent cord length, and a work horse. I prefer Bagged options and I do splurge to get the cloth vacuum bags for this model. I change the bag once a month with daily vacuuming. The hose is shorter than I would like but with daily use, one learns to navigate to offset the slight inconvenience. We have a very old house with high ceilings so there is no hose that will eloquently reach those ceiling corners anyway! There are no belts to replace! Severed belts were my downfall with previous vacuums and for years, there was only minor maintenance on this Kenmore to keep it running and happy!The suction and power- awesome! It goes between various carpet piles and uneven thresholds easily and provides the same great pick up power regardless of material.It is heavy in the sense that my 11 year old would slam it into the legs of my grandmother's table with little effort so that would be a caution for anyone with family heirlooms or preteens that hurry through their chores. (I got a Samsung robot for that room and I vacuum it once a week with the Kenmore to save the table and chair legs from disgruntled youth.)Fast forward to May of 2022, when my second one was a year old and the powerhead roller brush stopped working. There is nothing stuck. The suction on the hose and the bare floor option is still great. The brush just won't roll. One year is not good enough for me. I'm not interested in disposable appliances.I'm at a crossroads. If the original model was rebuilt to have a shorter life span, I'm not sure a $322 price tag is in my budget for a yearly investment. I'm very disappointed and unsure how to fix it. We live in an area that no longer has service centers and so I am unsure of the time, energy and cost associated with fixing it.I reached out to Kenmore customer service and will provide updates on the issue and the process.

Had initially purchased a Bissel that got good reviews. However, had many issues that I covered in a previous review. I am MUCH happier with the Kenmore! Yes, it cost a little more, but here are the advantages over the Bissel...Power switch is on the handle, SO much better than on the base of the Bissel, right next to the handle release. Was always hitting one or the other by mistake. Next, power cord comes out of the Kenmore unit mid-height, NOT at the base like the Bissel. No running over the cord every five minutes, or having to use one hand to keep it out of the way. Additionally, the cord is MUCH longer...can do the whole job without having to change outlets! Has lights, the Bissel did not, and is beltless, so NO broken belts. It is a heavy unit, but I have a lot of carpet, and it does an awesome job. The height adjustment is also a great feature. Built very solid, hope it lasts a long time. Very pleased so far.

**Initially a 4 star vacuum; a year later and it is sadly now a 2 star vacuum in my book. Reasons in the EDIT below!Initial review:Phenomenal vacuum for anyone with carpeting and pets! I’ve owned a Dyson, Bissel, and several Hoover uprights in the past; while they were all fantastic vacuums, the Kenmore Elite is easily the best vacuum I’ve ever owned. I have 2 cats that shed all year long, so I vacuum our bedrooms (carpeted) on average 3-4 times a week. The amount of stuff this vacuum manages to pick up is just incredibe; my carpets look, and more importantly, actually *feel* clean once I’m finished vacuuming. Unlike some of my other uprights in the past, this vacuum picks up just about everything on the first pass. Its suction is so strong that it even picks things up from a distance (without actually needing to roll over the area), which is great for vacuuming in corners or close to the wall. Works great on hardwood floors as well, even with the rollers on. For picking up gritty substances on hardwood (crumbs, cat litter, other “sand like” things), it works best with the rollers off; these things do tend to “bounce” if the rollers are on! Rollers automatically shut off when the vacuum is in its upright position.Yes, it’s heavy, and yes, it’s loud, but so are majority of other upright vacuums on the market. The weight doesn’t really affect its maneuverability while vacuuming, but can be an issue if you need to carry it up a flight of stairs regularly. Make sure you check the weight if this is something you’re concerned about. In terms of noise, it’s certainly loud enough that it’s difficult to carry on a conversation with someone while using it (without yelling), but it’s not so loud that it leaves your ears ringing once you turn it off lol. I’d say size, weight, ’maneuverability, and sound are about the same as every Hoover Wind Tunnel I’ve owned.One major flaw design—the hose. Where it connects to the vacuum is placed such that when you stretch the hose more than a few inches without physically holding onto the vacuum, it loses its balance and falls over. This is a huge flaw for anyone that likes to dust/clean with the attachments. It’s nearly impossible to use the hose without holding the vacuum, which basically negates having a long hose to begin with (initially a pro in my mind when choosing this vacuum). This design flaw makes this vacuum a poor (and potentially dangerous) choice for anyone that plans to use it on carpeted stairs. The hose diameter is also slightly smaller than most other uprights, making it so that practically all “universal” attachments aren’t compatible with the hose (without an adapter). Highly recommend purchasing a 32mm to 35mm adapter if you’d like to use additional dusting attachments (separate from those included with the vacuum); I found this adapter to work with majority of “universal” attachments available on Amazon!TL;DR If you’re looking for a quiet or lightweight vacuum, keep looking! This thing is heavy and loud (not much more than most other uprights, though!). It’s size and weight allow for its suction power; it’s an incredible vacuum for anyone with pets or allergies. Works extremely well on carpet and rugs, but does a great job on hardwood floors as well. Rollers automatically shut off when the vacuum is in its upright position. One major flaw (and the reason for the missing star)—stretching the hose more than a few inches without holding the vacuum will cause the vacuum to fall over. Not a deal breaker for me, but it does prevent this vacuum from getting a 5 star rating! Hose diameter will NOT fit most generic dusting attachments; purchase a 32mm to 35 mm adapter if you’re planning to order additional attachments!Edit:It pains me to change my initial 4 star rating to a 2 star rating, because this vacuum is truly a power house. The reason for the drastically lower rating? The direct drive roller brush/beater bar.This version uses a self-propelled roller brush that is directly powered by the vacuum without the use of a traditional belt. This is fantastic until you need to replace the brush. Traditional brush rollers powered by a belt typically aren’t that expensive or difficult to replace, however I’ve never personally needed to replace the brush rollers on my upright vacuums in the past––with regular untangling / upkeep, the bristles are usually still in great condition by the time the vacuum motor gives out.After only a year of use, I noticed that the vacuum was no longer making carpet lines as I vacuumed. Not inherently an issue, but moreso just something I noticed and shrugged off. It still seemed to suck up all of the visible hair and debris off my carpet, but I noticed after a few weeks that my carpeting looked (and felt) less fluffy than normal. I decided to check and see if the roller needed to be cleaned, and to my surprise, I found that basically ALL of the bristles were gone. Literally like 95% of the bristles were missing from the brush roller lol. They had all deteriorated at the root of the bristle, leaving behind just a tiny prickly patch where they attached to the beater bar. Since I didn’t use this vacuum any differently than I did my previous uprights, I was a little confused how they wore out so quickly. Not a big deal though, since I figured it couldn’t cost more than $20-30 to replace. Well, that is the case for vacuums that utilize a belt, but not the case for beltless vacuums that require a special kind of brush roller. ***A brush roller replacement for the 31150 model is currently $320*** LOL…THIS IS MORE THAN THE COST OF THE VACUUM!I decided to look through the reviews and saw a few others who complained about the same issue. I removed 2 additional stars from my initial review––1 for the poor longevity of the bristles on the brush roller, and 1 for the cost of the replacement. I could probably deal with one of these issues alone (can you tell I otherwise LOVED this vacuum?), but having both of these issues combined is an absolute dealbreaker for repurchasing the 31150. No one should have to purchase a $300 vacuum each year, and a quality vacuum certainly shouldn’t require $300 in maintenance fees each year either.After some research, I have since purchased the 31140 (blue) version of this vacuum, and it is every bit as powerful as the 31150, but with a belt powered brush roller. The 31140 version also does not include the light up dirt sensor. The suction, weight, and sound of the vacuum are all equal to that of the 31150, and the flaw in the hose location is still an issue with the 31140. Luckily though, replacement parts are much cheaper for the 31140––the belt is ~$5-8 and the brush roller can be found for just under $30.TL;DR Unless the bristle quality issue is addressed in the future, DO NOT purchase the 31150. The brush roller does not last more than a year, and costs $300 to replace. Purchase the 31140 version instead, which uses a belt powered roller. Every bit as powerful but with an affordable brush roller replacement available for ~$30!

Easy to get blocked if you disconnect the hose a lot. I miss the days of bagged canister vacuums with multiple tools included from Kenmore.

I replaced this vacuum with the same exact model that i bought about 6 years ago! It got beat up and i somehow broke the the pedal that keeps it upright, so i decided to look for a new Vacuum! I went to 5 different places that sell Vacuums and could not find a single one that uses bags, I hate the bagless ones as they are messy and do not like the look of the dirt in it and having to always wash filters , So after much research and shopping arround, I discovered that many of the Vacuums on the market are just cheaply made and a bad design! Maybe because i was used to this high quality product that i did not like anything else.So, I ordered the same one again as this Vacuum sounds and looks great, not too loud and very smooth sounding, you can tell it has a solid motor, also I never had to replace anything on my olde one, no belt and the bags last a very long time between changes! It is not good on stairs but I don't have stairs to worry about anyways so it is not a concern for me!Do yourself a favor and buy this Vacuum you will not be disappointed ! It makes your carpet look like new every time you vacuum!

People who own this vacuum need to know; Do not be rough with the lever that you press down with your foot to make the vacuum lean back to vacuum. We would pull back on the vacuum while pressing down on the lever and the lever broke after a while and the vacuum would not stay sitting upright, we would have to lean it up against a wall. Also be gentle with the telescopic wand, that stopped working after a while and when you used it to clean it would not stay outstretched it would always collapse because the locking mechanism broke. This is the best vacuum I have ever owned for suction. Love that it has a bag and a hepa filter.

Seen someone rave on TikTok about this so since I been trying all sorts and haven’t yet to find a good vacuum I took the chance on this one, it is loud and sounds like a jet or something.. with the bag I can’t visualize how much it actually is sucking up, it is heavy and not good for stairs. I definitely don’t think it is as good as people have said I still prefer my cheap $180 vacuum over this one

Super heavy. Cord is annoying, for the weight you’d think it was heavy enough for a battery to already be installed. Would like a battery powered. Cleans excellent though and works well on pet hair as suggested. Would rate a 4 but would take cordless with the same performance to attain that.
