I gave this to my kid for when he goes down to the basketball courts with friends. He doesn't own a phone so this works to make us both feel safe. We tried it and yes I can hear it. The basketball courts are not next door so its impressive of the volume of this whistle. Its made of good quality and still looks like new even after a long time of owning it.

Recently, there’s been rumblings of coyotes in the area, plus there always seems to be an errant dog or two running loose in my neighborhood. I’ve been thinking about getting some sort of protection – namely for my dog. If ever we are in danger, having this whistle may come in handy.I’ve only tested it indoors, because I do not want to unnecessarily alarm my neighbors, and while I cannot judge how far the sound travels (which is said via product description to be about a mile,) I can say that it has a sharp trill and will likely startle a potential predator. However, my dog really seems to like the sound, he became riled up and excited while I tried the whistle out – which I hope won’t be the case if ever I need to use it. I’d hate to attract another dog.This whistle is made from titanium and seems sturdy. I couldn’t crush it by stamping on it, but it would probably get squashed under a car tire. It’s a muted silver color and seems more compact compared to a standard gym whistle. Though the price of this one seems a bit outrageous. I just did a google search and didn’t find one close to this price point. Not sure what makes this one worthy of an almost $50 price tag, but maybe there’s something I don’t know. The whistle comes with a long chain, which can be adjusted in length. The chain is nothing special and the silver doesn’t match the whistle, (if that matters to you.) I only wear it while I’m walking my dog, and I just slip it into my shirt, so I’m not concerned about the aesthetics.

I try to never go out at night in unsafe locations. However, it’s impossible to predict when there is going to be some kind of danger. I’m probably too old to learn karate or other forms of self defense. And I’ve always thought that noise is a great deterrent. Some say this might be a bit expensive, but what’s the price of safety? I feel better when I go out at night for music and dancing, that I have this little whistle. I sometimes wear it under my clothes or tuck in my purse. As for the volume, I don’t want to set off my little dogs by blowing it, so I will trust that it is much louder than your normal whistle. I hope I never have to use it, but it does give me some added confidence.GREAT GIFT FOR A SENIOR LIKE MYSELF.

This is a very shrill whistle--louder than you might think. There is no 'ball' in the whistle chamber to make the whistle trill-you get a simple, clear, loud note. It is furnished in a plastic snap box with no lining or care instructions.It is very lightweight, some sort of metal but could be plastic of some sort. It comes with a shiny metal chain which does not match the whistle in color or finish and is also likely to get snagged on the hole in the whistle which you pass the chain through. I noticed the whistle getting stuck during the day and being annoyingly halfway up my chest as I moved about.I think at this price, a whistle should be perfect--not just good. This one is not

At first glance at the product (whistle) and the price (somewhat expensive), one might wonder how much prices have increased recently across the world. However, once you open the case and hold this whistle, you realize it's built pretty well.First, this isn't your cheap dollar store whistle. It is built with top tier materials and designed very well. It doesn't even have a ball like most cheap whistles do. Second, this whistle will not rust ever. There is definitely some weight to this whistle when you pick it up. Third, this whistle is loud. I can't stress that enough.Overall, this could be the item you never thought you needed on long runs, something to keep with you on travel in your luggage or carry-on, or something to give to your gf or bf to emphasize safety. It's a whistle and it will never be taken by security. However, it could be one of the items that protects you or others someday.
