Great book but not for absolute beginners
I am atil reading through this book but so far I am impressed. It does not give you specific tutorials that will give you an identical picture to those in the book. Instead you are given a set of principles. There are a few pictures showing just a few stages of the author's process on many examples. I think this book will suit people who have already embarked upon drawing and already have a good idea of how to lay out a picture in graphite, bugcwhk wantvtk get to grips with portraiture and charchol. I find the book makes me think about how the author has achieved his effect and that enables me to apply his ideas to my own process.

Loving this book!
This book is simply brilliant! Wish I had this book with me 20 years ago because my teachers simply weren't able to explain a lot of stuff I simply couldn't understand. Nathan Fowkes is the best! :)
