A classic packed with recipes
So many simple and tasty recipes! And a few complex ones I haven't tried. An icon of Swedish baking, it will be a much used classic in your kitchen. I really can't recommend this book highly enough to bakers from intermediate to advanced, even beginners who want to advance their skills and impress their friends and families. This is a book of recipes, not a work of prose with a few recipes added.

COLORFUL PICTURES HOORAY...!
The Swedish Cakes and Cookies, Finally I got this Book, I wanted to get it for a long time, It is small yet filled with many Colorful Pictures, in fact every Recipe has a Picture, and I love that. It is so important to see how that specific item should look like, that entices me to make the dish or what ever it is. So many times you look at Books with no Pictures or black and white Illustrations of the dishes,...now what is That? You going to make the Recipe based on some Drawing?...I don't think so! I do realize Books with Color Pictures are more expensive to make, but if the Publishing Company wants to sell them better include many Pictures with the Recipes; otherwise, a lot of People will not buy them. This Swedish Book is Excellent not only because of the Pictures but the well written recipes, so Clear and Easy to Follow, my Family and I get many Ideas and made few Recipes so far, with out any Problems and that is some of the Reasons why The Swedish Cakes and Cookies Book Sold over 3,400,000 Copies...how about That! ... This is a wonderful book full of amazing Swedish recipes that I remember my Mormor making since I was little! Even has great practical tips and advice!

Drool worthy
I feel like I won the lottery! Because of health issues I need to cut down (eliminate for the most part) sugars/high carbs. This little cookie and cake book has so many recipes that fit the bill! All beautiful pictures in color. I’m thrilled❤️

I bought this cookbook quite a while ago and never used it until this week. The good news is that there are many interesting looking recipes, good photos of everything. The recipes look uncomplicated and i would say deceptively simple. The results pictured look more homemade than professional but I was ok with that. However, i finally tried a recipe yesterday: the almond muffins. Looked very simple with few ingredients. But beating the grated almond paste with eggs never got smooth, stayed with little lumps. Then the temperature directions didn’t make sense. Either 400F regular oven or 325F convection (i went convection route). It says cook for about 10min. Really? For muffins? The time and temps absolutely did not work and i had to keep taking them out to check them, put them back b/c they were under-baked. I had them in there almost 15min more which was then too much. Also, they only made 8 muffins not 12 as stated and i only filled them 3/4 full! Also, the picture showed almonds scatted throughout the muffin where the instructions said to just scatter almonds at the bottom of the muffin cup. What? In the end the taste was decent but the instructions were not good. I will try one more recipe and i am done. If something that seemingly simple got messed up I’m not hopeful for the other recipes and therefore rate this cookbook 3 stars. I am an experienced home baker and knew this recipe did not seem accurate but wanted to use up my almond paste so i that’s why i gave it a go.

this book of swedish baked goods is just fantastic. a full color picture of each recipe. and are they ever good recipes. love this cookbook.

great book - but not foolproof
fairly good book. + the product is as described on Amazon + there are many photographs and are just the right size to shown the item without taking up much real estate in the book (more recipes on fewer pages = affordable book, + very well written - from kitchen equipment and techniques to the instructions for the recipes. + authentic recipes (definitely showing the love for almonds and cardamom as flavoring agents) + all ingredient available to the American baker with lingonberry jams and preserves possibly being the hard-to-find ingredient. - definitely a few typos or mistakes. The recipe for Arrak balls calls out "... tablespoons cocoa powder..." but doesn't say how much. So read each recipe thoroughly once or twice before attempting to make any recipe. Adapt the recipe as necessary to make it work. Pay particular attention to yeast-leavened items, because they are based on fresh yeast converted to dry yeast equivalents. A cake of fresh yeast in the US (2 oz / 56g) is more than the Swedish norm of 50g. So a 2 oz cake of RedStar fresh yeast is good for 12 cups of flour. (1/3 of a cake is good for 4 cups of flour). Practically Perfect
Not just cakes and cookies to be tried and admired - the section on yeast baking, with easy and delicious results, is perfect for those of us who enjoy the taste and smell of freshly made rolls, muffins etcetera. I do not care for over-sweet and decorated cakes and cookies, preferring the use of nuts and fruit: this book is perfect for me (and fortunate friends who visit). It is easy to use, and a practical size - typically Scandinavian.

This is definitely the best cookbook I have ever owned (and I have many, many cookbooks from all over the world). What I like about it is that all the measurements are in dl's and cups. Also the oven temperatures are in both C and F degrees. It also list the temperature for convention ovens. They also show substitutions for the ingredients if you can't find an ingredient or if you are out of something. The illustrations are great and the methods are easy to follow. I can't say enough about this book and would recommend it to anyone, even a beginner. The recipes are delicious and I will definitely keep this book and eventually pass it down to my grand daughter.
