…….on the day these popped lotus seeds arrived, my friend was visiting and both of us were feeling a little peckish. I quickly took the photographs of the unopened packet (for the review), then opened the packet, poured into a dish, but then completely forgot to take a photo of the actual popped seeds - I’m so sorry! EDIT: have since bought another bag, and took a photo of the contents - please see my photos…. My friend and I though really enjoy them. Finished the bag in minutes! They have a subtle taste and lovely fresh crunch, with a good date (2025) To open them, I had to cut the packet with scissors, the seals were that strong. The foil-lined packet is very well made, and keeps the contents as fresh as possible. As an alternative and healthier snack my usual grab is chickpea based, so this packet was a lovely change, and I will be certainly ordering more of these seeds and brand. I think they are good value for alternative snacks (£2.99). These types of specialist foods are always going to be a little higher in price than the mass-produced ultra processed food items, which are always full of all sorts of cheap contents and of which are all bad for our health…… As I say, I will order again, and regularly. I’m very happy to recommend.

I am always on the look out for lower calorie snacks and these Mr Makhana Popped Lotus Seeds are both new to me and at 89 calories for 25g they are a welcome addition to the variety of snacks my family eat. You get 75g in the bag which holds 3 serving or is a good bag for sharing. These popped lotus seeds are Black Salt flavoured but are not overly salty at all and are not greasy. They are cooked in olive oil and offer a different and new texture and flavour than any other snacks I have tried before. I would say this is a savoury snack. The texture is hard to describe, they are smooth on the outside and have a sort of puffed middle with a very light crunch which is nice. The seeds are lightly flavoured with black salt, chilli and coriander and are very moreish. This product is made from the makhana water plant and is a natural snack with no added preservatives, additives nor any trans fat. We liked it and felt it was good enough value for money to purchase more.

In terms of nutritional value, makhana is known to be low in calories and high in protein and dietary fiber. This makes Mr. Makhana Black salt a guilt-free snacking option that can be enjoyed without worrying about compromising your health goals. Cheers to healthy munching

I have to say, that I was expecting a little more flavour from these. Flavouring said to contain black salt, red chili, and coriander - whereas, I could only taste salt and perhaps a very mild bacon-like flavour. Texturally, they're also very strange. They remind me a lot of other 'puffed' snacks, but taken to the extreme - Dare I say that they feel a little 'packing peanut' like? They are extremely low fat and to me they really do feel it. I think that iot;'s something you 'get' and love, or don't and, well, don't. Sadly, these aren't for me.
