Ideal map detail when walking
As expected from Garmin excellent product, however sadly being honest once again I feel an inflated price from Garmin. The reality is it does the job required, and when lives are involved cost does not matter. I am happy with the mapping quality.

Not cheap but good quality GPS mapping
If you are going to the Lakes then this is the Garmin GPS mapping software for you. It's not cheap but does what it says on the package.

15-20% of the map is missing.
Not as Described!! Beware this does not contain all the map information described on the Garmin website. If all you want is the central Lakes this is fine but it misses a lot of the peripheral areas which, according to Garmin, are included I have complained to Garmin but their customer care is pretty poor.

Digital vs Paper
The micro SD card covers the national park area of the lake district. The difference between the 4 paper maps that make up the map coverage area, is what is shown in purple on the back of OS OL4, OL5, OL6 and OL7 is on the card, if it is outside that area it is not on the map, which is the main reason for a digital map, you want what is on the paper based version.I think that this is what lets down the digital map, it should include the whole of the paper based maps, for that area. I would recommend carrying a paper map if you are walking close to the edge of the district as you may stray off it.I think it is better to walk with a map of higher detail on the 1 in 25,000 scale compared to 1 in 50,000.I use the maps when cycling and on the road a 1 in 50,000 scale is fine, but for off road it is easier to navigate on the more detail map. I think the real limitations is the limitations of the device as I currently use a Edge 800 and the bigger the screen the better you are at navigating. I don't recommend leaving the paper at home with the Edge 800/810. The Garmin montana is probably a better device to navigate with and read the area with.I guess most people who would buy this would already own the Garmin OS GB discover 1 in 50,000 map, so when you vere off the map you have to switch memory cards. The card does include the UK road data-base so if you venture off the map you can still navigate around, the area. So if you are navigating around England, Wales and Scotland it has the map of the country.Since Garmin has slashed the cost of these maps down to £60 it is better value so it is getting 4 stars, compared to 3 it would got at the old price., but I feel it should include what is on the paper version and I would give it a 5.I also have several other maps of this scale and one is a coast map and they decided to miss out the land in the map, so it is a large area of nothing
