Used this to blacken some Aus 10A steel. Worked incredibly well. Instant and permanent. I've used numerous other chemicals to blacken stainless, but this by far is the best. Not sure about other stainless steels, but for 400 stainless, its great!

It works on German stainless steel. This is amazing.

Application was very easy. I degreased the old winchester stainless barrel several times. Used a latex glove to spread on solution with cotton cleaning patches, waited 3-5 mins and rinsed/sponged with hot water. Repeated a few times but never did get much past a darker gray color. Very uniform finish. When wiping down and oiling, darker finish will come off, but enough color remains to make it worthwhile. Oil/wax to 'seal" makes it glossier. A bit caustic to breathe - suggest using in a ventilated area. Dump the used rags/patches ASAP. Would use again if needed. And I have a ton left! Would love it if I had gotten a blacker finish.

I am new to working with stainless steel and was looking for a product that would turn the stainless steel dark black. With sterling Silver, which is what I work mostly in, there are products that turn the metal a dark black. The Presto Black for stainless did not turn the metal dark black but more of a grey/green tint. It did not do what I wanted so I removed the product color from the stainless jewelry piece. The product was well wrapped and came in an excellent time frame so I didn’t have any complaints. Basically the product just wasn’t black enough on the metal for what I wanted, which was black under an inlay of finely ground stones

Works just fine with patience, following instructions, keep attention to detail and more patience as will require several recoats. Works great on fine media bead blasted gun parts. DOES NOT like smooth shiny parts. Must have the surface roughed up a bit to get good results. I dip my parts in the solution and it takes several dipping sessions. Only way i ever got uniform results. After that, the finish looks nice and is durable. If you're impatient and need instant gratification, this solution is not for you.

So I have used this chemical on several attempts. I have tried this using 100% solution I've tried 50/50 60 40 70 30 and so on. I found myself having to re-dip them multiple times and even after multiple times it's still just wipes off. This stuff is absolute garbage. This does not do anything like it says it does yes it does turn it black but it wipes right off. It doesn't make any sense how they get any positive reviews I made sure I was using stainless steel as it was rated for. Zero value for the money
