Would recommend to anybody with an interest in prehistoric animals. I didn't realise there have been so many categorised of late. This book covers everything from the great periods of the earth's lifespan to the palaeontologists as well as a thorough breakdown on the various dinosaurs and mammals that have roamed the earth. Brilliant!

This is such a good book, initially brought it to look through with my daughter as she's going through her dinosaur obsession stage but ive found myself reading through it a lot more. Its a great size and a nice alternative coffee table book. The pictures are stunning and its packed full of information, maps and time lines. Super book and really happy I brought it, I would recommend this for any dino fan.

My 2yr old is obsessed with dinosaurs hes constantly wanting to watch, see, play, draw dinosaurs i bought him this to help him understand more has he grows its way to advanced for him right now so i will read it and show him has he learns. Its outstanding i cant beleive how much detail and imformation is in the book great buy. If your kids are dinosaur crazy get them this for you to teach them i cant wait to see his face when he turns a page.

Great little book with a conucorpia of more unknown species in glorious technicolor by the talented Dougal Dixon. Knock off a star for having 2 whole pages of famous paleontologists all who were male (and 99% white) and one passing mention of Mrs. Leakey in her husband’s entry. While none of Mary Anning -soon be a subject of a Hollywood film. Note my copy was from 2011 but still.... come on publishers!.... as Wired magazine said: “The public image of paleontology is of a science dominated by middle-aged white men, and we need to do more to foster and highlight diversity within our discipline. A fantastic book for dinosaur enthusiasts, my Grandson can real off the name of hundreds of dinosaurs and just loves reading facts about them. He was thrilled to get this encyclopaedia for Christmas. Thr knowledge this author has is second to non and the illiterations help to add interest too, a great book and as it is not too big a little lad can manage to carry it around as it would if larger become difficult yet still big enough to clearly read and see the pictures. A very pleasing book.

A very good general reference to dinosaurs, mammals, pterosaurs, and other extinct vertebrates. The pictures are attractive, although the colours are almost entirely imaginary. The general background information at the front is helpful. There is one irritating fault: the index doesn't indicate (with bold type) on which of several pages the main description is to be found. This is certainly not just a book for kids. Anyone interested in the history of life on Earth will find it worth while.

I never grew out of my dinosaur phase and this book is perfect for pandering to it. Excellent illustrations, logically set out with proper latin names and likely habitats of the dinosaurs plus the periods during which they existed. This is very accessible - I could have happily devoured more science as I love evolutionary biology - but an intelligent child will get as much out of this as an adult. Only quibble was that only a small portion of the book was dedicated to megafauna which is a particular interest. Otherwise I highly recommend this.

I bought this because my toddler granddaughter shares my fascination with dinosaurs but I didn't realise quite how many variations there were. Great detail and illustrations,for all dinosaur lovers out there.

La spedizione è arrivata nei tempi stabiliti. Libro in inglese perché la scienza in Italia non va. Poco male, l'approccio anglosassone è semplice, diretto, completo, logico. Il libro è strutturato in modo molto chiaro. Ha 512 pagine. La prima parte riguarda la suddivisione delle ere geologiche e l'evoluzione dei vertebrati con grafici e schemi chiarissimi e molte immagini. Poi c'è tutta la parte dell'enciclopedia degli animali preistorici suddivisi nelle ere geologiche in cui sono comparsi, ogni animale ha il suo disegno, breve descrizione e luogo dei ritrovamenti. Dougal Dixon è un paleontologo scozzese che ha scritto un'enciclopedia fantastica, per un appassionato è un libro da avere.

I’ve bought other dinosaur books and I think this one is most worth it for the $$. Very detailed and a good sized book. The illustration style is lovely and feels timely. Would recommend this to anyone who likes dinosaurs, no matter the age
