Make sure gas is trapped so detector can sense it!
Reviews have said that this product does not work… that is possibly due to spraying the can in the open air at the detector. This will be a waste and the detector likely will not pick up the gas. This product works when you trap the Gad with the detector. Professionals use professional equipment for this… but if you are just a homeowner wanting to test your carbon monoxide detectors… then simply use a Tupperware container. Place it over the detector. Then slide the spray stick inside the container and start releasing small amounts of spray. Make sure that you keep the container pressed firmly against the wall making sure no gas leaks out. Be patient. After a couple seconds or so if the detector hasn’t went off. Simply spray a little more. Hope this helps

Works, but doesn't have much CO- test all detectors at the same time! See below.
We have 2 smaller Nighthawk CO detectors for travel and 4 plug-in Nighthawk CO detectors. To make better use of this $40 product, my husband had a great idea - using extension cords, I attached all 4 large CO detectors and placed them in a large clear plastic bag with the 2 battery powered smaller ones. I sealed it up with a rubber band after removing as much air as possible. I stuck the straw through a small hole I left and pumped a lot of the CO in it. All 6 detectors went up to as much as 380+ max. Because the alarms go off at 10-50 min at 150-399PPM, I had to wait awhile. 2 of them went off LOUDLY at 10-11min and when I took them out to stop the ear piercing alarms, of course the CO in the bag decreased by a lot. However, I feel confident that because all 6 were reading high PPM numbers in the high 300's, they all work. This is the only way to get your money's worth - test all your detectors at once!

Not worth the money! Test inconclusive!
Barely enough spray to test one of our two CO detectors. We have a five year old home with five smoke detectors / two of which double as CO detectors. All five passed smoke test / by separate product. The one CO detector we did try to test gave no results. So we bought two plug in CO detectors for less than we spent on this can. Very disappointed in this product. All articles warn how serious it is to actually test the smoke and CO sensors for the safety of your family. Paid a lot for this product and ended up with no idea if the product failed or if the one CO sensor we did get to test was bad. The industry needs a better testing product for CO.

I was certain I could make this tester work with my experience in smoke and co detectors but…after using one full can on one low level co detector, I need to give this a one star.I will say, the can does contain more product than other reviewers stated.I am disappointed.
