I am so enjoying this white noise machine! years ago I had one by the Sharper Image, which had something like 10 sounds, but did not have the directional button, which I really like, as it allows for all kinds of listening variations. Pointing the sound towards a wall gives a totally different soundscape than aiming it into open space...yeah, it's subtle, but it's a lot of fun to play with. I've used it plugged into myUSB port by my bed, and also plugged into my PC, and it is really handy. The volume control/power button is super sensitive and easy...it's all easy, and I am loving the birds the most. I listen to the other sounds for a wee while, then go back to my birds. I will say that I find the wind storm to be absolutely terrifying. I lived through such wicked storms in NYC a few years back, that the sound of wind freaks me out, so if I could, I would trade that one in for city sounds or highway sounds. Yes, I'm living in the south and miss incessant traffic. I like creating a soundscape in whatever room I am in, but I remember what it was like living in neighborhoods where bars and other residents were pumping out the party sounds, which included live music and brawls, almost around the clock, and that white machine from long ago was about the only thing letting me get some sleep. If you find yourself living somewhere that sounds a bit like that, you will definitely benefit from this. I had neighbors who were only turning it down when we were going out to church. I know, that sounds like a joke, but it's true. A little machine like this can make your life better, chasing away both other people's racket, as well as suffocating silence. I definitely recommend this, and if you know anyone trying to deal with one of those situations, this would make a great gift.

This is the second sound machine I've had and, while this one is certainly better than the other one, the sound quality is not great. Though for $17, I didn't expect a lot. Some of the sounds are a little weird. I thought the raindrops was tv static lol. But all in all, not bad if you just need something other than silence to fall asleep to.

Sound quality is good. I like the big, easy to use buttons. Great for babies as well as adults.
