Would buy it all day long
EDIT (1/14/17): This optic is still going strong. I also finally got around to uploading some pictures for reference. Be aware that the sizing and appearance of the reticle is a little different because of the magnification and the odd angle of using my phone to take the picture through the optic. This optic still has my full recommendation. This is my first review in probably eight years of using Amazon. I was so impressed with this product that I wanted to do one. I hope this helps in your decision to purchase this optic or another.I purchased this item based off of the reviews of earlier models that HoloSun has created. Previous versions have gun through numerous torture tests that you can find on YouTube. HoloSun makes products that can hold a zero even better than Aimpoint's similar products under the same conditions, though the HoloSun did break when dropped into hot water after being frozen while the Aimpoint stood up; that's to be expected when you spend twice as much on such an optic. This model, the HoloSun HS503GU, is the newest HoloSun optic. The HS stands for HoloSun, the 503 is the model number, the G means that the battery is on the outside underneath a cap that is easy to remove and change out without having to remove the optic, and the U means that the housing covers up the elevation and windage caps so that they don't get snagged on anything should your optic rub up against something.I bought two of these optics, one for each of my rifles. They mounted on within minutes using the included tool to tighten the base up against the upper reciever on my rifle. You get the hi-rise mount and the regular height mount inside the case, which was a pretty nice case though not as nice as an EOTech case. With the two different size mounts you can set this sight to either a true cowitness with your iron sights (if you have any) or a lower 1/3 cowitness with your iron sights. You can look up more about that online, but basically it just means that your iron sights are in the middle of your optic or the bottom of the glass if deployed and looked at through your optic. The different levels of brightness for the optic all worked great; I shot my rifles from the afternoon until dusk and could adjust the brightness accordingly. The battery life on these is supposed to last wicked long, so you don't even have to worry about turning them off. The instructions say they turn off after 10 minutes of not sensing any movement, then turn off when you pick the rifle up again. It seems to work from having put my rifle in the safe and taking it out again. The battery will probably last for many, many years, but I'll be changing it every year or so to be safe. The dot zeros quickly and holds a zero. Mine was about 15 clicks to the left on one rifle, and 15 clicks to the right on another, all at 50 yards. Each click is .5 MOA, which indicates .5 inches at 100 yards, or .25 inches at 50 yards. Elevation was about right, give or take a few clicks. The dot and circle were crystal clear on most settings, but get a little fuzzy when you have the brightness jacked all the way up in the dark. This makes sense, though, and my EOTech did the same thing so I'm not worried. I paired this with a UTG 3x magnifier I had lying around and it works perfectly. It fits right up near the optic and zooms in to the target, though does make the dot and circle bigger as well, which is expected on a red dot. Holographic sights won't zoom in proportionally to the magnification on a magnifier, but red dots will. This means that when you put a 3x magnifier on a red dot, the dot will be 3x bigger and so will the target. It's still nice for sighting it in, though, and I recommend a similar combo for giggles if you want that sort of thing. I'll be looking at a higher quality magnifier, though, just because.Overall, this optic is very high quality and I fully recommend it. I've done a lot of research and would trust this just as much as an Aimpoint, and more than an EOTech given their recent fiasco. Clear optic, clear circle dot, excellent fit and finish, and good options regarding mounts. Can't really beat that for sub-$250. Or even sub-$500, honestly.

Better value than Eotech
I installed this without the riser on my CZ Scorpion Evo SBR and have perfect co-witness with this guns excellent iron sights. I am a huge fan of the circle dot reticle as it works superbly for close, quick target acquisition while still allowing precision at reasonable ranges.Glass is perfectly clear with no aberrations at any location in view. As mentioned, the perfect reticle in my opinion, crisp with no anomalies, intensity adjustments were adequate for all conditions I've used so far. Well built, it seems very sturdy, waterproof so far and don't foresee any design flaws that might cause premature failure. Repeatable and accurate adjustments, tracked perfectly in all my tests. The flexibility to mount with a riser or not is an added bonus. Simply an outstanding product for the money. For the money, this particular model is an excellent value and unless I were going to battle, would choose this over my previous favorite Eotech with similar reticle. I can buy two of these for the price of an Eo and would not consider myself "short sighted". I will definitely consider this as my first choice for any future builds.

PricePoint vs Aimpoint
I own many high end and price point optics. Usually, you get what you pay for and the cheaper optics are always far inferior to the pricey counter part and it's generally not even worth getting the cheaper ones. This is a great exception. I own an Aimpoint micro T1 and use it on my main rifle. This site, at first glance, is every bit as crisp and accurate as my Aimpoint BUT with more features. I cannot speak to how iron clad it is since i have not thrown it at a wall and i don't scuba dive with my rifles since I'm not a navy seal but i can say if you aren't either, this is just as good or better than an Aimpoint. It's dual reticle is awesome, they are both perfectly crisp and get brighter than you would ever want. The auto on/off feature should ensure you'll forget it even needs a battery. This unit with the external battery makes it way more useable in case you ever did need to change the battery in a hurry. Buy it. It's worth every penny. Will update if i have any problems down the road.

Excellent Optic , Budget friendly
It has been over a year now since I purchased this optic, after set up and zeroing I ran this through three carbine courses in the last year. I like the circle dot eotech stye reticle without the eotech battery life. Its been on for a year and still going strong, its held zero. I do not treat this rifle well, Im hard on it, drop it, manhandle it. I can say this is a rugged optic, and durable for hardcore use.I also have vision issues with red dots, the dots are always elongated or I see multiple dots. Sometimes when using the holosun the center dot can get a bit hazy to my eyes but everyone else who has picked my rifle up and shot with it say its crisp.I highly recommend this optic. You don't have to sacrifice budget for quality on this.

I like the clarity and crispness of the reticle since I ...
A year and a half after purchase, 10-15 range trips of 700-1000 rounds total, and held zero using Holosun stock mount and then on an American Defense T1 quick release mount, still on original battery. I like the clarity and crispness of the reticle since I wear glasses and have an astigmatism, with the help of a diopter equipped 3x magnifier. My main preference for this RDS was the option of an eotech styled circle dot, all other "normally priced" manufacturer options were dot only. At the time of purchase Holosun had not come out with the open reflex type window yet, nor ACSS.Basic ranging can even be applied with the 65 MOA ring equaling head to waist at 50 yards, head to foot at 100 yards and head to foot from ring to dot being 200 yards, on a 5'10" individual. 65 MOA ring is supposed to equal a normal shotgun pattern at XX yards, I don't remember so look it up. It would be a good reference for home defense shotguns expecting to be fired indoors. The ring helps your brain know where shot is going and not going without having to overthink in stressful situations.
