THE NO. 1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER Head back down to Clarkson Farm with the bestseller from our favourite welly-wearing wannabe farmer, Jeremy Clarkson ___________ Enthusiastic trainee farmer Jeremy Clarkson made just £144 in his first year at Diddly Squat Farm. This year he's determined to do better. Not because he now knows what he's doing. But because he's fed up of getting stick from Kaleb. Yet farming continues to be a challenge. For instance . . . · Loading a grain trailer was more demanding than flying an Apache gunship? · Cows were more dangerous than motor-racing? · It's easier to get planning permission to build a nuclear plant than to turn a barn into a restaurant? Jeremy's always got a plan. Loads of them. Often cunning. Not always greeted with wild enthusiasm by Kaleb and Cheerful Charlie, however . . . ___________ PRAISE FOR DIDDLY SQUAT 'Clarkson has done more for farmers in one series than Countryfile achieved in 30 years' James Rebanks, author of A Shepherd's Life 'Clarkson has showcased the passion, humour and personalities of the people who work throughout the year to grow the nation's food . . . and brought an understanding of many of the issues faced by farmers to the British public' National Farmers Union 'A deserving Farming Champion of the Year' Farmers Weekly 'I don't know anything about farming. It's like David Attenborough doing jet-skiing, or Nicholas Witchell saying, "I'm going to be a cage fighter'" Jeremy Clarkson Number 1 Sunday Times bestseller, October 2022 Review: Smiles - Life on the farm continues. Not for the Squeamish
I’m only a quarter of the way through this book. I was enjoying it immensely until I got to the chapter about liking animals. Fifty years ago, I read about the horrific treatment of calves and I’ve eaten veal once since then - without my knowledge. I’ve started throwing away unopened the solicitations from PETA because if I open them, I’ll be upset all day. As I said, I was enjoying the book until I wasn’t. So I skipped the rest of that chapter and settled down until the chapter on pheasants. That’s when I practically threw my hands up in the air and stopped reading. Perhaps some warning would be helpful. I’m almost dreading what I’ll come upon next. I enjoyed the first Diddly Squat book very much and I’ve watched the two seasons on Amazon Prime Video. I suppose I’ll have to become a vegetarian.

Grumpy car writer turns to farming; a good fit that one.
I'm familiar w/Clarkson from his T G program, and think he's a good fit to be a farmer. I grew up on a farm, and learned early on, if the crops were good, the farmer complained the glut of a big crop and prices would fall and they'd have a bad year. If crops/animals were doing poorly, the complaint again of how hard the year would be. Rare indeed when farming was profitable w/o complaints and all was good. Clarkson fits the M.O perfectly. Love the sketches on chapter headings, and woke my wife up laughing at the drawing of him AFTER a cow met his crotch. Also, his anecdotes about regulators, and environmental city folks and the vagaries of how to make a buck with down on the farm lifestyles.

Outrageous and hilarious good sense.
Accident prone and completely unqualified in agriculture, Jeremy is nevertheless determined to succeed - if only the bureaucrats would use some logical thinking. Laugh out loud reading at times and frustration over official interference at others. Great fun but also thought-provoking.
