Dominica (Bradt Travel Guide)

The book is very comprehensive, exploring every nook and cranny of this small island. The detailed driving and hiking directions for accessing various sites, and caveats, should be helpful during our visit.The book was written before Hurricane Maria, and the updated information from the website isn't very informative. I imagine that the Botanic Gardens were destroyed, along with any other unique plantings, and buildings, etc. One of the main incomes for Dominica was the Ross Medical School, which has relocated to another island.

We just visited Dominica in Jan 2020 and we must say we are sorely disappointed. This book is a love letter to Dominica when the reality is very different in the island.The book does not mention that the island has virtually no touristic infrastructure:- The whale watching tours he describes only run on Sundays, so clearly you are SOL if you want to watch whales in the middle of the week.- If you want to do an activity, you have to program it months in advance or there will be no availability - the people offering tours do that only as a part time job and are not available 24/7.I don't have time to write all the misleading issues associated with this book. However, believe me, it is not worth buying. Unless you plan to stay in your room all day long, I would also venture to say that the island is not worth visiting, but if you do, make sure you pre-program all your activities ahead of time.The only saving grace is the canyoneering tour with Extreme Dominica. That tour was indeed amazing.

absolutely thorough and easy to use guide- extremely well organized, particularly when it comes to hikes in different regions, and lots of useful maps (was able to get away with just using what was provided in the book and didn't have to hunt down an actual trail map when i got there)- absolutely indispensable resource for my trip to dominica. thank you!!

Having spent a lot of time on Dominica, this is one of the best — if not the best — guidebook out there about this magical island.

Fantastic guide - really thorough. Gives details of hikes, accommodation and guides that you can't find online. Just as good as a Lonely Planet guide.

Wer sich speziell für die Insel Dominica interessiert, ist mit diesem wirklich ausführlichen und gut recherchierten Buch bestens beraten. Auch Kontaktdaten, Emailadressen, Telefonnummern sind korrekt recherchiert.

Der Autor dieses Buchs lebt auf Dominica und gibt auch das online-Magazin "the Dominica traveller" heraus. Ich hatte mir mehrer Reiseführer bestellt, aber dieser ist alles, was man braucht.

Nous avons passé 8 jours en Dominique.... trés beaux paysages la côte comme à l'intérieur.... mais le reste..... joli petit village de pêcheurs pour Calibishie il exagère.... Il faut regarder de loin et ainsi de suite.... 3 ou 4 jours sont suffisants.... quand même assez décevant et les routes sont impossibles...
