The Very Best of Cole Porter

Great CD, with a lot of famous songs that have survived the ages!!! I gave it to my adopted mom, she's in her 80's, and she put it on and sang with the singers, and she was delighted!

Perhaps one of the best songwriters ever, Cole Porter's music still resonates for it's witty lyricism and stellar style of being one of the most persevering composer in the last 100+ years. His songs were recorded by the who's who of the music industry with various interpretations of his most classic songs and this specific album showcases those hits with the people who are most closely associated with reintroducing the music during their prospective eras. My favorite Cole Porter collection is Red Hot & Blue, which was released in 1990 and features modern artists of the late 1980's singing and interpreting the Porter classics. This album now runs a close second and demonstrates why the older arrangements became definitive standards. I would recommend this album for both those familiar and those new to Cole Porter.

If you are a fan of Cole Porter you will love the nostalgia of a different era. If you have never heard of Cole Porter you will enjoy the music that changed the way the world heard the first notes of swing.

So danceable. My preteen grandkids were bopping to this CD. Puts you in a wonderful mood listening to the music of Cole Porter and his great lyrics and fun melodies. I also bought a copy for my 85 year old dad who just loved it.

I got this CD because of the good reviews it had received. It is not to my liking at all. Nearly all the artists "finesse" the unique harmonics that are what I like about Porter's songs so that they virtually disappear. "Anything Goes", supposed to be an upbeat song, is sung almost like a funeral dirge. Other songs, meant to be more in a ballad mode, are sung up tempo. Terrible.

Excellent collection of classic Cole Porter! Performed by great artists. Knowing of Porter's sexual tastes, you wonder if some of the songs might have been inspired by or aimed at a guy, which puts a new spin on the lyrics. This is a great collection for Cole Porter fans!

Still one of the best voices there is to listen to! timeless! I listen to this CD almost daily! It is so nice to sit in my living room-enjoy a glass of wine while listening to Cole Porter or have lovely soft music while eating any meal!
