Good Design; Definite a Display, not a Toy
I bought this last week and started putting it together Friday night right after I picked it up. After organizing my pieces by color and size, I put together the bench and carolers sectin. Then I decided I wanted to prolong the time it would take to assemble the rest. The next day I started to put the tree and building together. While putting this together I quickly gathered that this set was not meant to be a used as a toy. The basic structure of the design is durable. However, even the slightest touch to the roof or some other parts could make pieces fall. The tree is pretty simple, it's very repetetive, which is to be expected. Not all layers on the tree are securely in place. They are staggered to llok like a "real" Christmas tree.Overall, I would say that this is a good buy. It was exactly what I expected and worth my time. I can't wait to put it back together for Chrismas. It's my husband and I's first Christmas together, I think we'll make getting Christmas Legos a tradition and put them together every year.PROS:-There are many mini-figures. Two of them have skis, two of them are carolers, a grandfather type, children, and more.-This would fit into a christmas village-As always, Lego included many intricate details. There are details on the inside and the outside. Even the chimeny (there's a fire in the fire place) has multiple colors in it just like normal stone would.-There are three gifts under the tree and two in the shop windows. They include an train engine, robots, and a wrapped gift.CONS:-I found one slight design error. Or, more so placement error. The chair behind the work bench (it spins!) doesn't fit at the position you're told to place it. I fixed this by moving the chair back a little. Easy fix!-The durability of some of the external parts is lack, but like I said this seems like a display not a toy.

Great Christmas Collectible for LEGO Fans
I got this set last year, it was my first "Christmas" set from LEGO (besides Advent Calendars), and now LEGO is replacing our other little pottery Christmas village that we used to set up every year. With two dogs we can't run the LEGO train around the tree, so we've got a table set up with a small train loop and this set on it and a few bits and pieces from LEGO Advent Calendars. It comes with a "Santa" in a little swivel chair, working up in his workshop while toys are in display in the store below. The fairly rare "lighted brick" creates a really neat effect if you are displaying in lower lighting. The large tree is also a treat for LEGO fans; while the set comes with the smaller molded trees, the parts to make the larger and much more realistic tree are always interesting, as are the "lights" to put around the tree. Rounding it out are a classic park bench, carolers, and a very nice lamp post.Coming in at over 800 pieces, it's a bargain for the MSRP, especially considering all the minifigures it comes with and the lighted brick. It's a shame that the LEGO Company limits releases like this, as you can see a lot of reviewers complaining about jacked up prices on the secondary market, but I think this is what happens when you release a limited number and a different holiday set every year. That said, keep an eye out for the upcoming candy shop... it looks like it might even be better than the Toy Shop.

Lots of fun and charm
This was really fun build and it has a lot of charm to it. I purchased this impulsively (as most adult LEGO fans tend to make their purchases) and was quite surprised at the number of minifigures and pieces included for what seemed to be a 'small set'. It may be small in size compared to LEGO's other models geared towards older audiences but all the fun is in the details like the Christmas tree, roofing and mini toys.LEGO does a great job enchanting even adults with their Creator sets and modular buildings. This set will definitely be a challenge for younger children and does require a bit of time to build (it is over 800 pieces). I highly recommend to adults, especially if you are interested in the more expensive modular buildings but aren't able to spend that much. The same amount of thought, detail and surprises went into this set as it did with the Grand Emporium, for example. It's definitely worth the price IF you pay the right price. With anything LEGO, make sure you check the LEGO website and other retailers first to get an idea of what standard pricing is before you shop for LEGO sets. Amazon.com tends to be fair but third party sellers on Amazon may not be.

Loved the details
My daughter (10) and I started working on building this set Thanksgiving morning. We took all the little pieces out and sorted a few pieces, but we couldn't resist building right away. The people blocks were easiest to find, so we built those first. Then we started looking at the directions that came with the set and followed those. It was fairly easy to put the blocks together, but my daughter did have some trouble at first. As I went off to start getting ready for Thanksgiving lunch, my daughter put together the larger Christmas tree. My daughter made a few mistakes and was able to put it together correctly after I helped her pull the wrong blocks apart. That was one problem we had with a lot of the flat block pieces - I broke a few nails trying to pull blocks apart. My daughter is a bit young for the recommended age on the package. Since she is in a Lego robotics club at school, I let her work on it alone. If your child has experience following detailed instructions, you may be able to let them work on it without supervision, but the younger children will still need some help. I personally had a lot of fun putting this scene together with my daughter, and I plan on buying the other Lego Holiday/Winter sets.

if i had all the pieces...
This is a great Lego item which will give you hours of enjoyment to put together...and even more hours of frustration as you raid all your child's buckets of random Lego pieces hoping in vain to find a replacement for those 2, 4, 8 missing pieces!

Toll.

Festive scene!
This is just the cutest winter scene, very Christmassy and (even though this Lego is fairly easy to assemble within a day) it brought loads of fun and excitement to the family. Will make an ideal Christmas present and also could be used pre-Christmas to get children into Christmas spirit (as if they need any help!).This scene from a winter village features a toy-maker's shop (filled with loads of precious little details!) with a light-up window. There are seven Lego people and a huge light-up Christmas tree (which was hard to assemble - adult supervision and help will be required). In my personal opinion, even though it states that the set is for children aged 12+, this is absolutely suitable for kids aged 7 and older (I am not sure a 13 year old boy would appreciate it as much as a younger child). Already retired from the Lego official website, you can get it here on amazon (if you are ready to overspend by a big margin).

Magnifique!
