Follow two children as they celebrate their ancestors in this bilingual introduction to el Dรญa de los Muertos -- the Day of the Dead! They prepare offerings of flowers, sugar skulls, and special bread, and make delicious foods to eat and share. By spreading marigold petals, they guide the dead home to join the festivities. After hours of singing, dancing, and reminiscing, it's time for bed. The festivities are described in brief, lyrical text, presented in both Spanish and English. An author's note provides more detail on the holiday, its historical context, and the inspiration behind the artwork. Bob Barner's signature collages incorporate the traditional Day of the Dead symbols and bright, bold colors to evoke the joyful atmosphere of this vibrant holiday. Celebrate our ancestors on the Day of the Dead / Honremos a los antepasados en el Dรญa de los Muertos!

A Beautiful First Step into Our Traditions"
The Day of the Dead / El Dรญa de los Muertos by Bob Barner is a wonderful, vibrant introduction to a tradition so close to our hearts. The bilingual text makes it easy for my 5-year-old daughter to connect with both English and Spanish, while the colorful, playful illustrations capture the spirit of the celebration without making it scary. I highly recommend this book because it teaches our cultural values โ love, remembrance, and family โ in a way that's joyful and easy for young children to understand.

Wonderful pictures
I have to preface this review with the fact that I did NOT buy this book for the story. The story is pretty basic and simple with both a Spanish and English text on every page describing the dia de los muertos traditions. I'm not rating for the story though. I am an art teacher and saw a lesson plan involving this book online so I purchased it to give the lesson a try. It was a huge success and I am so happy to have the illustrations from this book to use. They are gorgeous and colorful!

Wonderful book. Beautifully illustrated and provided a good understanding of El Dia De Los Muertos for kids. I did a presentation for my granddaughter's second grade class and read this book, as well as talking a bit about the celebration and showing pictures I took in Oaxaca. They loved it! I actually bought two of these books so I could donated one to her classroom.
