This product works as advertised. Magnet is very strong and my iPhone 8 with case does not fall off.

I wanted the vent mount as I had purchased a "Car Mount Kit", but never installed. The XS socket is robust but did not keep my iPhone 6Plus from moving on the ball, but stayed well connected to the ball making it difficult to remove the phone with pulling the mount from the vent. I got a new iPhone XR. I attached the magnet socket from the Car Mount Kit on the XR Otterbox. The phone has not been any less stable on the ball and is much more convenient to remove. I would not recommend using the XS Socket with the vent mount, as continued pulling the ball mount off the vent is going to erode and eventually defeat the clamping surfaces. A heavier device will just pull the mount off the vent. The Ball to Socket bond should release first, regardless of what device you are attaching. My rating for adhesion is for the Vent Mount Clamp to the Vent itself. The Vent Ball mount is 5 Star, the XS Socket 1

This ULTRA STRONG is a vent beast! It might lean a little tiny bit, here or there, but it's not coming off till I force it off! Love it, it's way better than a stick on plate!

Nothing in this vent-attachable model uses suction, so that question is N/A. I had expected to mount it on a center vent in my dashboard, but the screen of my phone reflected so much outside light that I could not quickly read the screen or see the maps. So I attached it to the vents to the left of the steering wheel, where the screen does not reflect outside light so easily, and it fits my needs just fine there.
