The One: A Thriller

Best thriller I've read this yr easily
My first thoughts. Wow. Absolutely brilliant. Outrageously thrilling and creative in every way. I started to slow down my reading pace just so it wouldn't end so quickly. I was sad it ended because that meant I couldn't replicate the feeling of discovering it for the first time ever again. It was THAT GOOD.I've read Author Cole's books before, and she's a skilled storyteller. I've enjoyed her books before. This book just hits a bit different... Perhaps it's her best yet? Let's take a closer look at the characters.Brody Carr, multimillionaire that used to be in class with Sloane at university. He is smitten with Sloane immediately. What I loved with the two of them in the beginning, is you don't really know who is using who. Every interaction between the two of them smacks of intention."His mouth travels down her neck then returns to her lips. He steps back, setting her back on her feet. She lifts his shirt to the top of his chest, and Brody pulls it over his shoulders. She places her hands on his abs, pushing him toward the made bed in the middle of the room. His hazel eyes meld intently with hers, and she admires the sapphire ring around his irises. As Brody unzips the back of her dress, her eyes catch on a large black-and-white photo on the wall. “What’s wrong?” His eyes follow her gaze as she stares at the nude silhouette. Sloane recognizes Brody’s wife from her photos online. It’s the perfect excuse to leave."Sloane is the workaholic doctor who desperately wants to find a way to get a family. She feels it all slipping away after her husband's affair, and takes drastic action to get what she wants."She has to take control of her life. She cannot allow everything she’s worked for to be taken from her because of a man. Like Crystal, who always relied on someone else to give them the life they should have had. Cars overtake her in the neighboring lane, and Sloane increases her cruise control to the speed limit. I am not my mother."And the last main character is Ethan, Sloane's husband, forever regretting a brief affair with his work partner in trying times. Now he's forced to wonder if he really knows is wife as well as he thinks he does."Unfortunately, uncovering Brody’s secrets would also bring Sloane’s to light. He thinks back to his wife’s earlier reaction in their kitchen. Was it a coincidence that Sloane pronounced Carr’s wife dead? Or something more? Brody Carr, Ethan knows, is a man with much more to hide than an affair."What I enjoyed the most is that this story didn't have your typical twists, and the reader knew all the facts of the story. The story is written in alternating first person (Sloane & Ethan) and Ethan is the most compelling character in my opinion. He is crippled by guilt for cheating, yet does his job as Detective well. Sloane comes up with an interesting theory on how to move forward with her marriage, and I chuckled when I read it. While it had shades of Gone Girl, it was definitely NOT the same.Loved the epilogue! So rare to have an epilogue that far ahead in time, but I found it refreshing and cheeky. This is a book I will read again. It was edited, formatted and created like the seasoned pro Author Cole is. If you haven't discovered her yet, you need to fix that asap. The One is a memorable thriller that will leave you breathless.

A page turner
The characters were not good people, and some of the events defy logic, but that is why we read; to escape into another world. The characters were not good people, but I was here for it. I had a hard time putting the book down. I always enjoys Cole’s books, I just hate waiting for the next one. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

Fast paced
As like all Audrey Cole's novels , The One was excellent! Could not put this book down. Loved Ethan and Sloane, great characters. They are both to blame for the break down of their marriage. It was great even up to the last page, not knowing where this story would take them. Kudos Audrey Cole for your best novel yet!

Disappointed
Love this author and have read all of her books. The last two have disappointed me. There wasn’t any twists and turns on the last two books for me. I knew the ending from the beginning

Psychological Thriller!
Wow! I just finished The One by Audrey J Cole. My mind was going in so many directions in this book but it turned out great. I have loved Audrey’s books since I started reading them. They are always books for me that I can’t put down. There’s always something that pulls at my brain and I have that driving need to see how it ends and this was no exception. This is a detective story and a medical story. Sloan is an ER doc and her husband Ethan is the detective. You can imagine how busy their lives are. They are constantly working, she covering for docs in her department and he working on homicide cases which sometimes keeps him out at all hours. I liked both of the main characters. Kay is Ethan’s mother and I have a new respect for her that I did not have in the beginning of the book. There was so much going on in this book. Mainly, trouble for the couple and I wondered how in the world they were going to get out of all of it unscathed. You’ll have to read the book to find out what happens. I won’t ruin it for you one way or another. I did wonder at one point if it was over the top. By the time I finished the book, I didn’t care. It was all worth my doubt. If you like police procedurals, detective stories or books about doctors and hospital goings on, you’ll like this book. I love murder and medicine so this book is right in my wheelhouse. If this comes close to anything you like, try it out. If you love Audrey J Cole books, this one is a must read! Until next time…Happy Reading!Don’t forget to support the authors you read by leaving a review!I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Quick Read
After her husband has an affair, Sloane is hopeful that an affair of her own will not only even the score but also improve her marriage. When she reconnects with her old friend, and current billionaire, Brody things heat up quickly. But as Sloane turns away from the affair and towards her husband Brody is not ready to let go and elevates the situation putting Sloane at risk of losing everything, even her life. This was a quick read told from both Sloane and her husbands POV's. I enjoyed getting inside both of their heads, telling a more well rounded and twisty story. The first part of this book just feels like a revenge story, but things quickly heat up after the first twist. As the story unfolds we get to know a little bit more about each character and doubts about each begin to bloom. With twists along the way this is a story about revenge and how far someone will go for the life that they want.If you're looking for a quick read with some thrilling twists, this is a great choice.⭐⭐⭐💫 (3.5)Thank you to @netgalley , @booksgosocialgroup and @orangeskyaudio for the gifted copy of this book.
