Paranormal Jazzmaster XII, Laurel Fingerboard, Tortoiseshell Pickguard, Olympic White

You never know when a Fender XII is going to be available, and it's usually for a very limited time. The last time Fender offered a 12-string was an Alternate Reality limited run in 2019. I know this is a Squier, but ... c'mon. Squier is just a lawsuit Fender without the lawsuit. This is one of the coolest instruments in the Paranormal series. Sounds great. Looks great, especially in Olympic White. Believe it or not, the crazy headstock is not as crazy as it could've been, compared to the Fender 12-string "hockey sticks" of old. This one is closer to a "Gumby head." And I like it better, frankly. Mine arrived set-up beautifully, with easily playable action. Love the neck shape and feel. Yes, it's gloss, but it feels great. I realize neck shape is a very personal and subjective thing, but the graphite-reinforced neck on this one makes a thin-profile neck stiff enough to handle the tension of 12 strings. And that makes it feel and play more like a normal six-string. I know everyone rushes to mod this thing, but honestly, the pickups sound great to me. The bridge pickup is hotter than the neck pickup, which gives you some instant boost with the flick of the position switch. The electronics are quiet and work smoothly. So I'm not gonna crack this thing open unless I have to. The bridge seems great. The main strings are through-body, and the octave strings are through the bridge. Octave strings have a different intonation mechanism than the main strings. I think that's the compromise required to control the intonation of each individual string, so I'm all for it. Somebody in a review somewhere said they wish the chrome Squier neck plate said "Paranormal." I agree. Or even on the headstock somewhere small. (How about it on future Paranormal series, Fender?) The only upgrade I'm tempted to make is replacement tuners. The stock tuners have a cool vintage look and they work fine, but the tuner buttons are chrome-plated plastic – and they feel like it. They just don't feel solidly attached to the stem. When I twist them, I can feel some movement where the buttons attach. Some have complained of the buttons rattling, but I haven't experienced that yet. This whole thing is a mystery to me, because I've never experienced that problem, for instance, on inexpensive vintage-style tuners with white plastic buttons. It must be the type of plastic they had to use in order to apply the chrome plating. Something prevented a solid bond with the metal stem. For under $50 total, you can get two sets (left and right) of inline Kluson-style vintage split-shaft tuners that are all-metal. And that's what I'll probably do. I realize they had to cut production costs somewhere to come in at such a low price point. But for something that I touch and twist and adjust on a regular basis, the plastic buttons make me feel like I'm playing a crappy guitar ... even though this instrument is the exact opposite of a crappy guitar. This is an outstanding and unusual instrument right out of the box. And I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it for a long, long time. Great. Now I'm hungry for a McRib...

The factory box is a joke. If your vendor doesn't use an additional box, it might arrive damaged. Love the sound and quality of the guitar. Too sad it came damaged.

Has a nice jangle to it. So far tuning stability is good. Finish is fine. Fret work was good. All in all a very playable guitar at a fair price point.

12弦ギターは6弦ギターにはない厚みのある煌びやかな音色があって一本は手元に置いておきたいギターでした。スクワイアは低価格ながらとても良い品質のギターで大満足です。弦が12本もあるので押さえるのに苦労するのでセットネックを一度外してシムを挟みネック角度調整とサドル調整を丁寧に行ったところとても弾きやすくなりました。音楽仲間にも大人気の12弦ギターです。

This is my first 12 string guitar and I love it so much. It’s my third Squier Paranormal series and my experience is amazing. No complaints at all.
