Great retractable clothesline
I had a permanently installed clothesline that would block my view all the time. This is the perfect substitute! I had 2 lines up, so no loss of hanging room. This is hanging in the same spot, between pillars about 25 feet apart. As long as I get the line secured snugly, there is very little drooping, even when loaded down with a large load! I realize there is a lot more line in the thing, so it might be different if I were using the entire length. This seems to be built well. It is easy to remove from the bracket, which I do in hopes of extending its life. I think the plastic will get brittle over time in the hot Arizona sun and heat. The lines retract so easily. There is no "catch", so you just unhook the line, unwind at the stopper and walk it in. Installation was done by my husband, but looked easy enough in wood pillars. The metal bracket stays in place and the 2 little hooks stay in the other end. Much better than the old lines hanging all the way across all the time. I only wish I had gotten this sooner.

Well worth it with some modifications
Before I got this I was reading reviews and many mentioned that the things on the bottom that you wrap the line around to create tension were breaking frequently. So I had an idea to get some cheap boat cleats to use to tension the line instead. I mounted them just below the clothesline unit and bam, seemingly the only weak point is no longer an issue. Everything else about the clothesline is great. It extends and retracts easily. It has more than enough capacity for me as a single bachelor. It was also easy to install if you know your way around a drill and screwdriver. I'd definitely recommend for anyone that needs a long retractable line for drying clothes. Just remember to search for some 3 in. boat cleats to pair with it and you'll have a rock solid setup.

Good and Useful Product . . . Would Be Really Good with One Improvement
As others have said in reviews here, those nubs on the bottom---the ones that are for wrapping the cords around a couple of times to keep them in place rather than to retract when the lines are in use---are on seams and do not appear to be all that sturdy. Rather than to experience what others have gone through with fracturing and splitting nubs, I cut to the chase and purchased a couple of three-inch hard-fiber cleats to use for cord-wrapping, mounting them outboard of the clothesline housing maybe 1.5 inches or so. They work very well and should outlast the unit and its cords. I of course will not use the nubs at all. The manufacturer should reinforce those nubs, which are scandalously flimsy. I'd give this five stars then rather then four. My need is in the laundry area for hanging smaller items that are not going into the electric dryer nor worth putting up the Brabantia Lift-o-Matic umbrella clothes dryer outside for---purchased, incidentally, from Amazon a couple of years ago and the best such device I've ever seen or used---so it's spanning only about 12 feet, which is just fine. But one thing briefly puzzled me, and that was how to get the lines relatively taut and non-saggy. It can be done, but if it's not organized but instead done by eyeballing the lines each time, the lines will either be too saggy or too taut to finish attaching to the cleats. But then I figured out how to do it just right every time. Here is the process for both lines: 1. Pull out the lines and attach them to the hooks you have installed at the end of their run. 2. Get a yardstick---easier to use for this purpose than a retractable steel tape rule---and hold the end against the orifice where one of the lines emerges from the device housing. 3. With thumb and forefinger of the other hand, grasp the line right at the orifice where the end of the yardstick is. Pull the line out to 19 inches---this is a good place to start, because that is the distance at which I finally arrived after much experimentation---and hold the line against the yardstick at the 19-inch mark with your thumb and forefinger, keeping the yardstick firmly snug to the line orifice as you do so. 4. With the hand that was holding the yardstick, let go of it and grasp the line right at the orifice. Now you have one hand holding the line against the yardstick at the 19-inch mark and the other hand holding the line against the edge of the orifice. 5. Keeping the line taut between the 19-inch hand and the orifice hand, let go of the yardstick (now being held by the 19-inch hand) and let if fall. 6. Holding the line in place at the edge of the orifice, and keeping it taut with the other hand, bring the line around against the side of the housing and catch it against the bottom of the cleat. 7. Wrap the line entirely around the cleat, bottom to top and then top back down to bottom, and then bring the line back to the top again, which gives you one-and-a-half wraps. Hook the line at the top of the cleat as if to wrap it again, but don't. 8. If 19 inches is correct for your setup, the line will be slightly saggy but about as taut as you can get it without putting too much tension on it. If it is too taut to catch at the top of the cleat, start over trying 20 inches the next time; if it is a little too saggy, try again with 18 inches. 9. Whatever the correct length of the pull-out portion turns out to be, when you have the line hanging and secured the way you want it, take a magic marker and dot the line right where it bends back against the edge of the orifice. Then unwrap the line from the cleat, which will cause it to retract, and pull the line back out until you see the black dot. Take the magic marker and put a black ring around the line at the dot location so you can find it easily whenever you want to extend the lines for use. The black mark always goes right at the orifice edge. There may be another way to do this, but I could not figure it out. It's a minor hassle, but once the correct amount of slack line is determined to be correct for securing the lines at the cleats, and the lines are marked with the magic marker, it will be no problem to extend and secure the lines ever afterwards.

Nice retractable clothes line
I like the product. Work well. Just hope the line is of good quality. Time will tell.

It should work, but the problems are plentiful.
I bought this specifically to be installed inside my garage because the area that I live is super dry and horrifically full of dust, the origins of which are odiferous enough for identification and the absolute certainty that you do not want THAT on your clothes or any other fabric items. I knew that one of the main things that I need to be able to hang to dry are duvets and bedspreads, so I needed a clothesline that could support a fair amount of weight. This one fit the bill. The fact that it's a double clothesline was an added bonus. The issues are all somewhat minor, but there are enough of them that I will not rate this above a 3-star. Trying to install this isn't super difficult. You can use the mounting plate to mark the walls where you need to install the base of the unit, with the actual clotheslines, and you can run it over to the other side and use it to mark where you need to install the hooks. That part is super easy. Even installing the mounting bracket isn't hard. You do need to know if you are installing into a wall stud or not. Mine is half on a wall stud and half not. This is where the first of the more major problems comes in. This clothesline says that it can hold about 50 pounds, that's great, since that is one of the things I need in a clothesline. However, the wall anchors that they include in this are basic plastic wall anchors. I hesitate to trust those to 50 pounds of wet laundry. I wish that this had come with steel toggle bolts instead, as those are better suited for large weight limits. The plastic wall anchors make me worry that this clothesline will not be durable over time. I worry that if there is more weight on it regularly, that it will pull the plastic wall anchors out of the wall. This issue is compounded on the hook end. The proper placement for the hooks, in my garage, has them not going into a stud. I installed the wall anchors, but then the hooks would not go all the way in. The wall anchors were not the right style and ripped through the drywall to spin freely. The one I was trying to install ended up ripping out of the wall. I had to re-drill the hole into the stud just so I could get the hook installed in the wall. The line is nice and thick, so I think the line itself is strong enough for the laundry I need to hang. The cleats on the bottom of the clothesline, where you are supposed to wrap the line so it does not loosen or sag, those feel extremely cheap. Not durable. I'm using only a single clothesline, but I'm wrapping it around both cleats, just to try to spread that weight around a little bit. I may do what someone else in the comments did and install a metal cleat on the wall so that the clothesline gets wrapped around that instead. While I appreciate the manual method to hold the line, I don't think it's as good an option as could have been found. Either my line is too tight to wrap securely around the cleats, or I can wrap it and the line sags by several inches. Trying to get the pins through the unit and the mounting plate was incredibly difficult because you can't easily see behind the unit in the position it is in for my garage. That issue is a rather minor issue, but it's still very frustrating. Overall, This will work for what I need, but I don't know that I would buy it again, if given the option to redo the purchase, knowing what I know now. It almost would have been easier to install a smaller clothesline in the bathroom over the bathtub, like in a hotel.

Won't last
Boo..... I've had it 4 months... using it a couple times a week or less and the retractors broke so it allows the line to go slack all the time.... would not recommend.... also the return window was 1 month so now they wont do anything to help

Easy to install
Very easy to install. I love that it has pins to easily take the unit down when not in use to help protect it from the elements. Only used once so far so can't speak to durability but I'm excited to lower my electric bill this summer!

Formidabile
