Really good book, lots of informative information and pictures
Really good book, lots of informative information and pictures. Magnificent ship, so sad at the number of lives lost on both sides, in such a short period of time. In the end, Germany lost the Bismarck and Britain the Hood, but nearly 4000 men lost their lives.

I like Haynes manual format and it provided a significant amount of detail on the construction and operational history of this ship. A large number of detailed photographs accompanied the text, as usual for the Haynes format. In my opinion one of the better Haynes manuals.

Battleship Bismarck a deadnaught of the German Navy, history and details of a short life.
The Germans were amazing engineers and contributed a lot to the science and technology of the day. This book covers the details about the Battleship Bismarck and why the British feared this dreadnought getting out to the open sea and had to sink it at any cost. I found the history of the building of the ship and the details of the fitting out of the ship very interesting. The detailed drawings of each of the deck layouts was very informative. The section of life on board the Bismarck was also very interesting as well. When this ship was launched there was nothing like it in any Navy. It had better armor and better weapons then other ships of the day. It was the Tiger tank of warships. In combination with the U-boats this ship could have made a formidable opponent to the British Naval Supremacy and brought devastating effect on the British merchant shipping lifeline from North America. I felt the section on the final resting place of the Bismarck very respectful to the men who lost their lives fighting for their country.

This book is mandatory for whom wants to build a model of Bismarck. The printed computer graphics help the reader to understand the details of the ship.
