AEG Thunderstone Numenera

This is a fun addition to the Thunderstone line-up. The theme is more sci-fi-esque than other expansions have been, and the artwork reflects this, so if you're a purist, you may find this annoying. Still, there's nothing in the mechanics that is unusable with older sets, and the introduction of colored XP that can be spent for various effects is actually quite nice. A reference card listing those effect would have made it even better, as we've found we need to leave the rulebook flipped open to the page with the list.I think my biggest complaint is that the hero names are rather ... simplistic. This is probably to reflect the theme of the Numenera RPG (guessing since I don't know much about the RPG). But you have things like "Charming," and "Wise". I'd rather have more flavorful names, but that's probably just me.

I picked this version of the Thunderscape Advance card system as my introduction to the building deck card games because of the positive reviews, its unique mixture of science/magic, and the additional enhancements to a proven system. I was not disappointed and have enjoyed mainly playing this game solo. I thoroughly enjoyed my introduction to the Numenera universe and my only complaint is that there is a lack of additional source material for this system because I want more. I knew that this might be a drawback before I bought the game but I never anticipated that I would get so addicted to the game's theme. I guess I will have to settle for the other editions to supplement my deck.

This is a great game with a great theme that adds some neat new twists on the classic Thunderstone, like environment effects and new ways to use XP. I'd have little but praise for it but for the fact that it came with multiple damaged cards right out of the box (image of a couple of them included).Otherwise, it's a 5-star game, but I feel that there need to be consequences for poor quality control, so I knocked off a star.UPDATE: Got quick, timely responses from customer service on the issue, so I added the 5th star back.

Odd addition to the Thunderstone Advance library. Changes XP token rules, doesn't officially allow for Familiars. Most of the art is awesome, but takes a thematic tangent with the normal sword and magic TS world. Putting that aside, some neat cards, a great world on its own and still compatible with all other TS cards. Best looking board of any of them. A standalone experience complete in box. Or add it to any other collection.

Game seems ok but shipped without a box. Just the game with a label on it.

This game is much much better than Dominion. However, it may be a little bit harder for new gamers. Also, it takes at least 45 minutes to play.

Love Thunderstone and this is a fun expansion! It's a little more techy than the rest of the fantasy theme, but it's not so detrimental that I don't enjoy it.

I received 8 thunderstone shards and 22 Iron Winds instead of 10 thunderstone shards and 20 Iron Wind.Also received 46 randomizer cards (one extra) and one less third-level hero.other than that the game components are very nice and I really liked the art wor.

A really excellent game if you love a fantasy/sci-fi theme. This game is great to play with youngsters (8+ yrs I'd say) as there's little direct player-v-player conflict. It's mostly a race to slay the most monsters but with plenty of strategy and forward planning. There are plenty of reviews on line so I won't try to describe it further. The card/component quality and artwork is wonderful. I was missing three cards from my set but AEG customer service were excellent and have sent replacements.The only bummer is that the Thunderstone Advance series are not out-of-print. Buy while you can.Oh, and don't buy from Gamesters Orb on Amazon Marketplace as they are truly awful. I had to get a refund and re-order from someone else.

AEG is one of the most consistantly excellent game companies. They have excellent customer service, and their products are great. I am really looking forward to introducing Thunderstone to my after school Table Top Game Club.
