Installed this in a Mac Pro 5,1 with western digital M.2 SATA drives and it works fine. All drives were seen in Disk Utility and could be formatted. The fan is a little on the whiney side so I have since disconnected this as the card is getting airflow from the case fan anyway. Would recommend to anyone with a classic Mac Pro that needs faster storage than the SATA ports on the motherboard. Not as fast as NVME but a great way to increase the amount of faster storage in your Mac Pro.

***Be aware that the disk sticks are SATA M.2 type (not NVMe/PCIe-based). If you're not sure, use Silicon Power A55 sticks.*** Card works in Intel and AMD systems, and throughput is good, but docked a star because the controller only uses x2 PCIe 3.0 lanes. As such, the bandwidth is saturated at 4 drives, not 5. I can get ~1500-1700MB/sec sequential out of it with linux RAID. If you bought WD SA510's and you're having problems with this card, it's because of the WD disks, NOT the card. The SA510's are hot garbage and have tons of issues, even with a firmware update. As mentioned, Silicon Power A55's work perfectly.

Per prima cosa devono correggere la dicitura sul sito che parla di impossibilità a fare il boot da qualsiasi sistema operativo. Io l'ho personalmente installata sul mio Mac Pro 5.1 (modello Mid 2012 con OS X Yosemite) con cinque SSD Samsung 860 EVO M.2 SATA da 500 GB ciascuno, e sono riuscito a creare un volume di avvio senza nessun problema. Una volta creato il RAID 0 (di tipo con striping) mi sono trovato un volume unico da ben 2,5 TB dove ho clonato il mio disco di avvio. Alla fine, marcando il volume RAID come disco di avvio, il Mac Pro si è avviato senza nessun problema. La velocità supera i 700 MB/s sia in lettura che in scrittura (vedi foto allegate), superando il limite del SATA III (di 6Gb/s quindi circa 500 MB/s reali) e dando al Mac Pro una reattività veramente notevole. Per chi vuole velocità superiori occorre andare su SSD di tipo NVMe (si parla di oltre 1500 MB/s fino ai 2500 MB/s dei dischi più recenti). Ovviamente consiglio SEMPRE di avere un HDD secondario di back-up data la scarsa affidabilità di questo tipo di set RAID (anche se con un software di terze parti si possono creare altri tipi di RAID con affidabilità superiore). La scheda è veramente ben costruita (unica cosa non capisco il connettore a 16x se poi la banda totale è limitata a 2x riducendo drasticamente la velocità teorica raggiungibile) ed è arrivata con due giorni di ritardo nonostante il Prime (qui devo constatare che Amazon sta perdendo la sua eccellenza originaria). Dato il costo scheda più SSD uno si potrebbe aspettare velocità superiori, ma rimane lo stesso un ottimo upgrade per un computer di ben 7 anni. Costi a parte (circa 500 euro totali per 2,5 TB di SSD e scheda compresa), prodotto assolutamente consigliato.

Incidible value if you can find m.2 SSDs for cheap. Useful to add fast storage in the bottom pcie slot of your motherboard if you need it and have the extra pcie lanes. Careful with adding a 5th drive however, especially if you do a redundant raid configuration. All five drives under load will slow the whole array down due lane constraints. It works best in a storage pool without redundancy.

5 slot completati con 5 ssd M2 da 500Gb WD, qualche vite (c'è anche un micro cacciavite), pigiato in uno slot PCI, e . . . opplà ! Buone velocità (dipende dagli HD più che altro). Perfettamente compatibile su sistema Linux. Non ho utilizzato il raid (non mi serve) ma visto come si comporta credo valga l'acquisto. Consigiato.
