Please can someone confirm if this really is a 'gel' as per the product description. I thought pure acetone was a normal (thin) liquid.

This is acetone, a thin liquid not a gel. I have ordered it twice and am happy with the product and price.

can it remove emulsion paint from the carpet?

I haven't ever tried to remove emulsion paint from a carpet using acetone. Emulsion paint is water based so just by soaking this over a period of time should help to break the paint down to remove it with an absorbent cloth.

Does this remove UV nail polish?

Being a male I do not know but given its acetone I should think so. Having just read the label it does say use outdoors so probably not a good idea in winter.

If I'm using this to remove grease off a metal gate with a cloth? then what type of gloves will protect my hands from this stuff?

I wouldn’t use it as it evaporates far too fast. I would use white spirit and then some washing up liquid with brush then rinse off.
