Works well. Has rough interior surface to help grip material for pedstal to crush. It's smaller than I thought. My fault for not paying attention to the specs. So this turned out to be good and bad. Good in that my hand cups the entire mortal. I've turned the mortar at times because it was more comfortable. Bad in that I have to grind a small amount at a time. My use was to powder cut dried peppers after they've been through a coffee grinder. I was trying for flour like consistency (I had unrealistic expectations) but have gotten to salt like consistency which is close enough.

This was returned back. It was like a kid’s kitchen set.

It's pretty small, but it's really good. The sound is nice, and the durability seems pretty well? I like it. Can't wait to give it to my brother.

I am keeping the item because it is cute and can possibly be used to crush the smallest item, yeah like a pill. The picture though is misleading, showing a stack of bowls/mortars, seemed an excellent deal for the money. In actuality you only get the smallest one.
