Old fashioned but still fit for purpose
The reviewer who commented that it was "useless" must come from some kind of "learn it by numbers" milieu. Of course there is a program of study, and while the series was originally designed for class intruction there's adequate description (meticulous in the case of shifting position in Book 3).Book 2 takes you through the more common scales (those on the open strings, C natural, and the three flat scales F Major to E Flat Major) and introduces rythms based on quavers and semiquavers. Book 3 provides some studies by Wolfhart (of which the sixty studies comprising opus 45 are available on the IMSLP website) and is mostly concerned with a rather detailed study of the third position (the most widely used alternative position and the basis for mastering all the others) and finishes with a briefer account of the second position. Book 3 also has a collection of exercises at the end designed to improve accuracy of intonation. These are the original "Tune a Day" series and plainly old-fashioned by today's standards. These follow-on volumes don't have anything of the style and zest of Sarahs Pope's enterprising "New Tune a Day" and they naturally don't come with an accompanying CD.I think it's unlikely that they will appeal to children and young students today. Returning students of a certain age might well find them useful, especially as it's quite likely their early fiddle lessons were based on the series.
