Elfen Lied: Complete Collection [DVD]

As there are no reviews on the UK Amazon, I feel I should describe a little of what the item is about. Most details of this item can already be found on the US Amazon but I'll do my best to give as much information as possible about this item.Although this Blu-Ray set states on the back of the case Region A only, it plays absolutely fine on my UK PS3. And I'm certain the Blu-Ray drive for PS3 Consoles are Locked to their own Region. So a UK PS3 would be Region B for the Blu-Rays only. Yet this set of Elfen Lied plays fine. So I'm guessing this Elfen Lied set is either Multi Region or Regions A and B. And yes, I have a UK PS3.The set says it plays in 1080p High Definition. I'm not smart when it comes to the technical details but I can tell you that the picture quality is amazing. I never owned the original DVD set so I can't compare. However the quality of this set is sharp, clear, and so easy to see and look at.The Audio is DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 for both English and Japanese. The sound is very clear. I watched through the complete set in Japanese with Subs and I didn't have any problems with the sound. I've only watched 1 episode in English though (Episode 10) and still, no issues with sound.The English subtitles are done well. I didn't notice any mistakes. I'm not sure if they've just been taken from the DVD set or not. I believe I saw a review on the US Amazon of someone saying this. But their is nothing wrong with the Subs so really well done.This set contains all 13 episodes as well as the OVA which is all on 2 Discs. Disc 1 contains episodes 1 to 10 and disc 2 contains episodes 11 to 13, the OVA plus Special Features. However, with most Anime sets, the Special Features aren't huge. Their is a 16-18 minute video of production artwork and another 16-18 minute video of the character artwork. I personally fast forwarded when viewing these. It's nice artwork but not something I could watch through for over 30 minutes. And for those who are curious, when watching the artwork, it plays the Elfen Lied Opening theme and then the Ending theme one after the other through both of the artwork videos. Other than that, there is a clean opening and ending theme which is nice to watch.For those that have never seen Elfen Lied before, I highly recommend you watch it. In a nutshell, it's about a psychopathic serial killer called Lucy who has a split personality. The characters in this are loveable and the story is beautiful and emotional. It also contains lots of violence, blood and gore and nudity. Don't let these put you off though. Some of the nudity scenes may make you laugh whereas some are more serious and touch on more serious issues. Many of these scenes are done exceptionally well and the nudity isn't simply there for Fan Service.Some of you may find this Anime a mixed bag but in my opinion I will say this. It was an amazing ride and I'm so glad that I saw this and own it now.If your not one for Blu-Ray then you will most likely be fine with the DVD set. I only got this because I love Anime, I love Elfen Lied and I love Blu-Ray.Although I ordered this on the UK Amazon site, I did not order it from Amazon themselves as Amazon don't seem to be selling this. Probably due to it technically only being available in the US. The Company I ordered it from was called 'all your music' and they were great with shipping and delivery. I got a message a day after ordering saying that the item had been shipped and within 10-12 days roughly it arrived. Which for an item coming from the States is very good.Pricing. For me it cost £26.31 brand harry spankers (brand new), including postage and packing. I personally think that's a reasonable price for this upscale which includes the OVA. From what I've heard the DVD set does not include the OVA. If you have that much money and can part with it, then I would recommend this. However, sellers on Amazon do have a habit of having their prices fluctuate. I personally would not go over £30 but I guess it all depends on how much your willing to spend on this. Again, if your not that amazed by Blu-Ray then the DVD set would probably be more practical. But again, I believe it does not contain the OVA.I think I've mentioned everything I know. I've been an anime fan for most of my life. I think this is one of the best series I've seen. I've converted a load of people who don't usually watch anime to adore this series. It's just as good 2nd and 3rd time round and I speak as one who mostly won't watch a film more than once, let alone a whole series.I thought the opening was gratuitous with nudity (although most this is not of a sexual nature) and gore. It had me wondering if I'd like the series at all. The first disc pushes the cute factor a little more than necessary, but this mostly only on the first disc. That said, by the end of the first disc I immediately wanted to watch the rest of the series!I found the plot engaging and it was paced perfectly through the series. Repeat viewing definitely led to a greater understanding of the story because of it's many subtleties and complicated themes, which come across surprisingly well in the English language version. While it starts with guns blazing, gore and nudity (have your anime checklist at the ready!), it ends being a rather moving love story that has a unique take on relationships and human nature.The settings and artwork are often very beautiful and tranquil, and the character design is top quality.If you enjoyed 3x3 Eyes, you'll definitely enjoy this.I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good anime. In fact, if I had one anime to recommend to someone it would be this one.

I liked the anime, but it only covers up to vol 6 (there’s 12 volumes) of the manga and then gives a completely different ending. What makes Elfen Lied so good is the ending, those last 6 pages are just wonderful, I’m not an emotional person, I never cry, but those last few pages nearly brought a tear to my eye.It’s very similar to what they did with the Claymore anime, where it sticks to the manga but then the last 2 episodes just give an anime only ending and it’s only halfway through the manga.If you want to fully experience the story you need to read the manga, you’re only getting half the story with the anime and missing out on the real ending, and the ending makes the story. So the anime is good once you’ve already read the story, I suggest you read the manga first then watch the anime.The Bluray itself comes with a little art book that shows all the characters, it is an adult art book as some of the art the characters are naked.

Elfen Lied has it all, it really is amazing. I only got into anime recently and have fallen in love with this series. Elfen Lied just delivers in all aspects, the style is amazing, the music is amazing and the dubbed and subbed versions of the anime are both well done. Never has a anime series been so emotional and brutal. The name 'Elfen Lied' means Elvish song and it has nothing to do with the main story so to speak. I am currently watching this anime for the 3rd time round, yes, its that good. People say some plot holes are left open at the end, and they are, but still these are not so massive that it's something to get annoyed about. It's just a disappointment the manga is in japan only. This box set contains 4 discs and is 13 episodes long. You'll watch them quick, because it's that good. Then you'll watch it again, because it's that good. There is a 14th ep. not included on this disc, but this was only released in japan, and you can find it online to watch it. All this contained however is some plot hole fillers and a naked shower scene, nothing dodgy, Elfen lied is not hentai but it does contain nudity and gore. Also some people refer to ep. 14 as ep 10.5 because it takes place in between ep. 10 and 11.I strongly advise it.

Ok this was the first anime that i have seen and it was not a let down. (has spoilers and sorry for any spelling mistakes!!)Its starts off by followin a girl called Lucy who has been put in a very secure faclitiy until she has been let out by an unknown person (find out late on in series) from what you get in the slow escapeing is that she is a very dangerous little girl and can rip peoples limbs off in a matter of seconds and yes you see it all happening! (Lucy has things that are called Vectors that you don't see in the first episode) So it goes though alot of "shoot her" and death at the start (all worth it) The man trying to stop her from escapeing is Kurama hes in charge of keeping all the subjects locked up as well as other things.After Lucy gets out the facility she get shot off the cliff and ends up on a beach on the near by town where she is discovered by two young cousins Yuka and Kohta that are starting college soon. Surpriseing Lucy cannot say anything but Nyu (and has no clue about the vectors) when she is discovered but the two of them decide that its best to take the little horned girl (yes she has horn we don't see in the first scene) home to Kothas new place where we start to learn more about Kohta and Yuka and Yuka feelings for Kohta.Back at the facility they're seeing all the damage that was cause in a matter of minutes and sorting out waysd that they can kill Lucy enter Bandoh a mad killing man who has yet to find an enemy to bring him down he is sent to kill Lucy with a small unit search team also ordered to kill her.Kohta and Yuka are basicly teaching Lucy how to every thing like eating rice balls and takeing a bath (thats how much shes lost!). Kotha and Yuka end up calling Lucy Nyu because thats all she can say although you still kinda understand what she means to say at times! Yuka finds out the Kohta still has the shell that his little sister found years ago at the beach and new looks at it and then breaks it which makes kohta lets say very angery (his sister died) Nyu runs away crying, a few mintues later Yuka explains that she understands why Nyu broke it And the episode ends with Nyu out in the rain still crying looking for a new seashell.So thats the first episode if you like the sound of it trust me its well worth watching the rest to see how all te characters know each other and come together and Kohta's secert! To me its by far the best thing i have ever seen in story an stucture!

This was my very first anime 'collection' I purchased. I purchased it from amazon at the beginning of 2010 and I'm so glad I did! ...Not just because it's one of my favorites, but because of how ridiculously rare and expensive it has become. Even though it WAS my number 1 favorite, until I discovered Death Note (amongst others), it's still sitting comfortably in my 'Top 10'. To me, this series is both depressing and uplifting at the same time. It's also misunderstood - it received quite a bit of controversy and hatred because of its violence and nudity. Yes, this series contains its fare share of both, but at its centre lies a sad, haunting, tragic, emotional and beautiful character driven tale. If you're a sensitive type you may find some scenes upsetting, which may move you to tears!The animation, while great, does show its age a bit, but still holds up pretty well and has plenty of attractive background art and cute looking main characters. Lucy/Nyu and Nana are the main standouts in this series and all three are equally memorable; they're some of my favorite anime characters!The music score is equally great, memorable and haunting and helps add to key emotional scenes. The stand out track is, without a doubt, the Latin opening song, 'Lilium'. One track in particular feels out of place considering the nature of the series and that's the ending song - a J-Pop number called "Be Your Girl".I've read reviews stating that the voice overs, in both English and Japanese, are flat. I certainly won't be rushing to defend the English dub, but I never really felt the Japanese dub was weak by any means.Unfortunately, the series does have its share of flaws: characters do sometimes make questionable decisions, which isn't helped thanks to the translation job. ADV's subtitle job can, for the most part, be good, but is sometimes plagued with inconsistencies and mistakes. Also, when there are loads of signs on screen at one time, there are usually subtitle translations underneath every one of them. To me, it's quite distracting when your reading what the characters are saying. Of course, some signs do need to be translated, but most of them in this series are irrelevant to what's going on.Another main issue is that the story is incomplete. As a result, it has quite a number of plot holes and unanswered questions. Now, I have the read the manga, and I have to say (in my opinion) that the anime is far better despite the story being unfinished; I felt the story to the manga got a bit silly near the end (though it has been a while since I read it). While I thought the ending to the manga was sad, the ending to the anime is more open ended and leaves it up to the viewer to decide. I prefer this. Not only that, but it makes the ending bittersweet.And finally, another criticism would be the fanservice (the nudity to be precise), which could have been toned down a bit. Thankfully, the majority of it is more 'innocent' than sexual; either that or it's used for comedic effect. Also, the fanservice isn't as bad as it's depicted in the manga - I found the majority of that was completely unnecessary!Overall, this short but sweet bloodbath... er, I mean, series... is recommended! If you can't find this collection on eBay for a reasonable price then I suggest streaming it online and see what you think. You may find yourself in either the 'love it' or 'hate it' camp. But if you're a fan of anime, gore/violence, character driven stories or psychological horror, then you need to give it a shot.

My God, it feels great to be treated like an adult for once. Having watched this continuously since I bought it, I was absolutely knocked out by the sheer wit, violence and charm of 'Elfen Lied'. I've been a huge anime fan for many years now, having introduced many of my friends to the genre. I've championed anime ever since 'Akira', and having saturated myself on the genre ever since, it takes something truly special to impress me this much.The plot is sheer brilliance. Lucy, a bio-genetic experiment, escapes her captivity, and during a brief chase, makes her bid for freedom. A bullet to the head causes her amnesia and, with no memory of who she is, is fortunately picked up by a caring couple. As Lucy is hunted and unbeknownst to the danger surrounding them, life goes on as normal. The catch? Lucy's alter-ego is a cold blooded assassin which can manifest itself at any time.Even by anime's standards, this is disturbing stuff. The episodes focus on Lucy's adorable clumsiness (all she can say is 'Nyu' in a Pokemon style voice), which changes to terror when the other half of her personality is revealed. By this point, nobody is safe, and the series climax's in one of the most horrific twists ever seen. Rarely if ever, has a series bordered between horror and charm so effectively. And 'Elfen Lied's' ending must surely rank as one of the most touching ever. For a story this upsetting, there had to be some kind of closure.And for those who hate reading subtitles, worry not. The English language dub is excellent, if anything even superior to the Japanese dub (very rare).Never have I been so amused, shocked and baffled by anything. As anime series' go, this stands alone.

This Anime is one of my favourites so I'm biased straight from the off and it is hard to review this without spoiling it.The show is really, REALLY, ultra violent, has nudity, some really nasty characters and the dub is not the greatest in the world but it is still a great Anime.The main character is a girl called Lucy who is more than human, with a tremendous power and a psychotic personality who will kill anyone who get's in her way.She escapes from an Island facility but she receives a blow to the head and suffers amnesia.She is found naked on a beach and taken into the household of a young couple and here the story really begins.It is fun and throws in a nice bit of comedy, the main characters that join the household in the show all come together as family and it does have a nice bit of emotion and one of the greatest we will let the viewer decide endings.The art is really well done and the soundtrack is really nice, especially the song Lilium.If you do not mind the violence or nudity this is a great show, highly recommended.

My favorite anime of all time, and this great collection certainly does it justice. The cover art is amazing, the quality of the video and audio is great, and the special features, which is concept art, is very interesting to look at.The package came earlier than expected, without any damage whatsoever. Would recommend to any anime lover.

私が持っているポータブルDVDプレーヤーとノートPCでリージョンコードの変更なしで再生できました。ただ日本語音声が日本製と比べると音質が悪いです（画面外の人物のセリフが小さすぎる、等）。それと、作品自体の問題ではありませんが、ディスクケースが初めて見るような作りでした。構造上ディスクとディスクが重なってしまい、読み取り面に傷がつきやすいです。実際届いた商品にも細かい傷がついていました。さらに、ディスクのはめる部分がやたら固いです。取り出すのに神経を使います。無理に取り出そうとするとディスクが割れてしまいそうなので、私は１００円ショップで買った不織布ケースに保管しています。

Habe mir diese Box hier gekauft, weil die deutsche Box viel zu Teuer ist und Ausverkauft.Die Box ist super aufgemacht, sieht super Edel aus und auch das Booklet ist Super Toll.Was ich hier sehr hoch Loben will ist, das hier auch Deutscher Ton und Untertitel vorhanden sind. Einfach Göttlich und ein Top Preis.Zur Serie an sich:Jedem Fan von Splatter ist Elfen Lied ohne Zweifel zu empfehlen aber auch Liebhaber von einfühlsamen, dramatischen Stories kommen bei diesem Anime voll auf ihre Kosten.Der Anime ist ein für mich ein Meisterwerk und absolut ein Empfehlung.

Elfen Lied es de mis animes favoritos, y esta edición me encantó.El arte del steelbox es hermoso, detallado, y los colores bien impresos. Digno de una edición de colección. El libro con datos y arte son un buen plus para los fans.Considerando que es una producción de 2004, la remasterización está muy bien hecha, tanto en la imagen como en el sonido. Se puede apreciar el detalle de los dibujos originales, sin artefactos ni ruido. De igual forma, escuchar el opening en DTS-HD es un sueño hecho realidad.En mi caso, fue una sorpresa que incluyera el soundtrack, aunque éste no se escucha tan bien como el audio del blu ray, pero se aprecia.Una nota importante: sólo viene con subtítulos en inglés.

Ci sono molti pareri discordanti su Elfen Lied. È un’opera che si ama o si odia. Io appartengo alla prima categoria. Il Blu-Ray è perfetto, la storia in sé racchiude elementi di tradizione giapponese, fantascienza, problemi di bullismo, violenza familiare, incomunicabilità e molto altro. Alcune scenette servono a smorzare un’atmosfera molto cupa e la violenza esplicita dell’opera (la prima inquadratura dell’anime è solo l’anticipazione di quello che deve accadere).Fun fact. Sembra che abbia ispirato Stranger Things, il personaggio di Undici. La prima stesura si racconta fosse molto più cupa e l’incapacità di parlare di Undici nella prima stagione ricorda Nyu.I sottotitoli in italiano mancano ma è una edizione UK e quindi è comprensibile.Belli i materiali all’interno
